Ditched the typical cafes near the customs and travelled 30 mins to get to the Mount Austin area for Tropique and it was really an eye opener🤩 This 2 storey cafe really stood out with their lovely exterior and interior!
Started our meal off with my personal favourite, the fried chicken benny- tender and juicy fried chicken topped with a slow cooked egg 63 celsius egg and finished off with the hollandaise sauce on the side. Love that it is a refreshing change from the usual eggs benedict with that overly heavy sauce😂The scallop laksta and duck confit were satisfying mains as well with that crispy skin on the duck confit. Definitely will be back for the food and atmosphere but don’t expect too much from the service here!✨
So salty omg. The mash was thick and bland, so maybe the idea was for the two to neutralise each other, but it doesn't excuse the saltiness. I can't complain about the braised lamb shank though. I did wonder whether I was shortchanged since a deconstructed shepherd's pie had no pie haha.
Hidden between the cutlet and the toast were asparagus, king oyster mushrooms and caramelised onion. That's grapefruit hollandaise sauce around. Meat was Malaysian style, juicy and kinda sweet. Bread on the other hand felt cheap, neither crispy nor fluffy.
One of their fruit teas. They don't say what, but probably has orange and lemon. I don't usually rate drinks as such but this was superb.
Perfect for a brunch date is this gorgeous cafe in Mount Austin with dark green walls, wooden and ivory furnishings and gold accents. Impress your date with their Fresh Imported Oysters (RM24) for starters followed by the spicy Unagi Aglio Olio (RM28.90) that packs quite a punch. Alternatively, the Beef Burger (RM32.90) sports a juicy beef patty slathered in creamy aioli. *Grab from City Square, ~SGD10, ~16-min ride
