Tasted this plate of Roast Meat from Sum's Kitchen [$8.00], Char Siew comes in small thick slices, with a surrounding layer of fats covering the meat within it! The Outer layer are well-charred with a mix balance of the normal charsiew texture!
.
Overall, Meat was well marinated, gooey textured. Flavour was savoury with a hint of sweetness! Will be perfect with a cup of chrysanthemum [$1.20] per pax!
Bean sprouts usually is a good gauge of how well a tzechar stall can do for me, and these were never in any bit disappointing. Juicy sprouts with the ends trimmed, they were immensely flavorful with the subtle yet bold savouriness from the broth, not to mention the substitution of crispy fish provides a more interesting texture for the dish without trying to add in an overpowering whiff of saltiness to the sprouts.
This was erhhhmaagawd-mazing in my opinion; sounding pretty simple in its name but I am pretty certain there is much more than beancurd behind the science of it. Delightfully crisp, they were also pretty free from grease, and each piece seems (I am not certain) to be made from a little mix of meat/fish paste, egg tofu, potatoes, chili and other greens. Each bite comes with just a subtle meatiness, with a little hint of just the chili without the heat; all incredibly fluffy inside. The portion is also generous considering this is the amount you get when you order a small portion. Definitely something I would recommend and would have if I ever return here again!
Have heard about them quite a lot by friends, but it's still pretty much a very lowdown spot up in the north that is living in the shadow of The White Restaurant that's lurking just a little further at the next bend. Didn't get a chance to try the Roast Pork (sold out for the day) and Char Siew (apparently they were sold out too with remaining portions reserved). The roasted duck is pretty much above average from those I have tried; cut along the grain and being tender, moist and succulent in big chunks with a glistening skin that's juicy and savoury. They are already very good on their own, but do dip them in the accompanying plum sauce; thick with gel-like consistency that gives it an intense yet suitably sweet flavour. Probably the best roasted duck you can get in the north!
