I’m indifferent to pears, but poached pears get my curiosity, and @sofrancesg Poire Belle-Hélène has my attention. Priced reasonably at fourteen dollars before additional customs, this classic French dessert of poached pear drizzled with chocolate sauce & complemented with vanilla ice cream is a rare sight in Singapore.⠀
⠀
Unlike its more common distant relative, the wine poached pear, Poire Belle-Hélène is poached in simple syrup and is alcohol free. As such, most of the flavour comes from the pear itself, and the chocolate sauce. So France is incredibly generous with their chocolate sauce, and the pear is positively inundated with it. It’s rich, bittersweet & smooth, a perfect complement to anything sweet.⠀
⠀
Unfortunately, the pear itself seemed like it wasn’t ripe just yet, as it was a bit bland despite being poached in simple syrup. Additionally, it was still a touch hard, requiring concerted effort from a spoon or a knife to cut through it. Still, the lush chocolate sauce, velvety vanilla ice cream and whipped cream were more than enough to ameliorate the shortcomings of the poached pear.
The little gourmet in me immediately springs unto life the second I see the little French supermarket in So France. Now it’s possible to bring a bit of France home. And enjoy some French bistro food while at here.
Salmon and Scallop Tartare is a lovely creation of refreshing tastes of umami layered with the fresh creaminess of avocado. And the scallop pieces are sweet! And quinoa gives a nice crunchy bite to the soft texture of salmon, scallop and avocado. Very good in both taste and texture. The dish that impresses me the most here.
Duck Conf'wich is a very hearty meal made up of fresh greens drizzled with olive oil and zest, generous amount of shredded flavourful duck meat sandwiched between wholesome loafs of bread. And the foie gras terrines add that hint of decadent rich buttery goodness to the duck meat. The portion is very big, best to share this one.
Paris Brest is made up of crispy choux pastry, whipped cream and praline filling. I love the texture of the chou pastry. And the praline filling makes it a unique creation. Definitely worth a try.
The place is of upmarket bistro ambience, which is very nice for chilling out with friends. The service is pretty good too. A great place to do atas grocery shopping and hang out with friends or dates.
Thoughts: Nice!
We had Set dinner $75 includes white asparagus, grill Talbot fish , desert . While the asparagus and fish were quite good, we expected more for restaurant charging $75/- , poor value we think.
We ordered rack of lamb , which was under cook on one side , the dish costs $55, I think it’s highly over price as the fish didn’t taste great at all.
Service staff was excellent though , she heated up bread for us when we requested . Excellent staff service .
Still I think So France is over price ,we had far better French food at more reasonable price and prepared with much better quality .
A typical French brasserie located at the heart of Singapore at Duo Galleria. I love the instaworthy furnishing where you get to enjoy quality French food in a cosy atmosphere! Alfresco seating available and located near Bugis MRT
Order this as an appetiser, you can order it as a main which will come with fries too at a bigger portion ($34)
One of the best tartare I’ve had in Singapore. The atmosphere of the place is lively, there’s even a pretty al fresco area available for dining.
Part of the 3 course set lunch menu (32++) Which comes with a starter and dessert.
Snapper is pan fried till the skin is crispy and the flesh is cooked till flaky without being dry.
Great choice for lunch around DUO.
