This is one of the signature dishes - yes, recommended
Although personally, I’ve tasted a better version of this
A different variation from singapore and johor version. Served with cabbage and different variety of meat. Very generous portion of char siew, meat balls etc.
Sek Yuan was number 1 on my to-go-to list in KL. Known for its long history and good cantonese cuisine. We ordered their signature roasted delights and soy chicken to makan.1/3 the affordable price and x3 the deliciousness. We were very satisfied.
Established since 1948, Sek Yuen is Pudu's age-old institution favoured for a long list of uncommon but lovable dishes. If you and your friends enjoy a homey gathering over delicious tai chow and bottled beers, look out for this neon-lit standalone restaurant along Jalan Pudu. The succulent Pei Pa Duck (from RM26) is a must-order here but we've also recently discovered an underrated Paper Wrapped Chicken (RM5 per piece). This juicy dish requires calling one day ahead to order and the results are absolutely heavenly — order two per person lest you fight over the last piece. Whether or not it's an occasion, you'll enjoy digging into the Kwai Fa Chee (RM40), a celebratory dish of shark's fin tossed in crab meat and scrambled eggs.
Recommended for 4-6 pax.
Reservations are necessary on weekends.
Avg Price: RM25

I think I'll continue remembering it as the chicken thigh so well marinated, so succulent, so juicy, so tender, so smoky. Don't just show up at the restaurant demanding for this dish because advance order is required.

Exuding old-world charm with retro neon lights and age-old furnishings, Sek Yuen makes a perfect venue for a delicious Cantonese-style dinner and plenty of laughs with the gang. The highlight here is the traditional Pei Pa Duck (from RM26) — the duck is first boiled and then slow-roasted to render the fats, giving it an addictively crispy skin and tender meat. Be sure to ask the friendly uncle for recommendations on portioning so everyone gets their fill of duck. Then, do like Tastemaker Brian Leow says and order the Chai Choy. The flavourful stir-fried vegetarian dish, albeit simple, will leave you with no regrets at Sek Yuen! Also share the Char Siew and Fish Paste Sang Mee that pairs an unconventional meat duo for a light yet tasty noodle dish.
