San Peng has always has a reputation as being one of the best Kai See Hor Fun in Kuala Lumpur, with its rich and light prawn broth and delicate kampung chicken served on the side. However, a recently learned protip is to add on chicken liver served with the broth. What happens is it changes the textures of the chicken liver with the warmth of the soup, giving it one of the silkiest textures you’ll ever try. Definitely a way to level up your hor fun.

Kai See Hor Fun (鸡丝虾河粉) is a Malaysian Chinese noodle dish consisting of hor fun (rice vermicelli), served in a prawn and chicken broth, with chicken breast strips, prawns, Chinese chives and prawn oil.

The broth was light and fragrant, with hints of deep fried shallot oil. The chicken breast strips were just the right amount, and prawns, although small, were sweet. It’s not hard to find good kai see hor fun, but it can be a challenge to find a great one outside Ipoh, and this is definitely one of the better ones. Although a meal on its own, this dish is usually complemented with a side serving of steamed chicken (白切鸡) drizzled in soy and sesame oil. The best thing about this place is they also serve a healthy helping of braised meats (卤肉), of which their braised pork intestines (卤猪肠) stood out the most with its sweet disposition.

I have never been a fan of hor fun. But since learning from fellow diner Nicholas of the noodle dish's reverence, I have found a new appreciation for it.
This one at San Peng is a pretty legit representation of the Ipoh original. The broth is a tasty balance of chicken and prawn, coupled with slippery smooth flat rice noodles. You know it's a slurp-worthy dish when chopsticks aren't a necessity, but a preference. There is almost enough prawns and shredded chicken to go with all that noodles in the bowl. So really, I left feeling very satisfied — even if I still am not the biggest fan.
While watching tv food shows and this was recommended! Since I am away from home and craving for hokkien mee, why not give it a try?
San peng is famous about their chicken x prawn noodle, then soup based is not really spicy, but you get to add chili paste by your own to match the level you want to 🤤 You may go for the dry version one and other type of noodle! It's another hidden gem in KL area! The price is around rm8.50-9(price with beverage)

Arrive a little earlier for a hearty brunch with the family, minus the lunch crowd. Priced at RM5 a bowl, the thin hor fun noodles swim in a clear, aromatic broth along with shredded chicken and prawns. Complement your meal with the usual hor fun suspects — delicious Steamed Chicken and Beansprouts. A well-kept secret here, according to Tastemaker Brian Leow, is the Braised Pork Intestines, which gleam with a sheen of dark sauce — not for the faint-hearted but definitely a yummy delicacy! Ah Kwong also serves Braised Tofu as an alternative braised dish.
