The food at this Pudu favourite may be old-school gold but the ambience is a splash of new and cosy within, where the area is air-conditioned. This is just place to bring a picky business partner for breakfast! The Chee Cheong Fun (RM3) is available either with soya sauce and dried shrimp or doused in runny curry sauce. The former hits the mark on flavour, especially if you prefer your breakfast on the lighter side. The Yong Tau Foo (RM1.50) spread is a wondrous sight, offering choices from brinjal to dumplings and supersized ladyfingers. Don't miss out on an order of bouncy meatballs made in-house, and if you're up for it, a plate of tastebud-tingling BBQ Fried Intestines (RM5)!

Yong tau foo heaven! You can spot rare choices such as stuffed angled beans, long beans, crispy fried wanton with special stuffing, etc. If you're an offal fan, don't miss the caramelised intestines. Also, don't forget the curry cheong fun which is topped with shrimp, slurps!

Along Jalan Brunei Barat sits the constantly jam-packed Yap Hup Kee. It's best to visit in smaller groups as seats are scarce, especially during the dinnertime rush. Allow yourself some extravagance when picking out Yong Tau Foo (RM1.30 per piece) — in this case, it's the more the merrier — and don't miss out on the delightfully greasy brinjal. Tastemaker Brian implores you to also try their BBQ Fried Intestines (RM4.50) — sweet, crunchy and absolutely scrumptious despite its lesser looks. To go with all that protein, Yap Hup Kee's signature Soya Sauce Chee Cheong Fun With Dried Shrimp (RM2.50) serves silken smooth noodles with the occasional crunch from fragrant dried shrimp toppings. Our only gripe is that one bowl is never enough!

Serving silky smooth parcels of deliciousness teamed with an extensive yong tau foo selection, Yap Hup Kee is one to bookmark for delicious Chee Cheong Fun and Hakka Yong Tau Foo in the city. While I enjoyed the rice noodle rolls in dry version topped with dried shrimp, I thought the shrimp really stood out in the creamy curry sauce. Come here for a good, quick lunch fix washed down with a cup of their house-made barley.
