Qinde is now my go to place for Portuguese egg tarts. Ever since my favourite Madeleine ceased operations last month.
Located in Whampoa Makan Place hawker centre, Qinde has been around for quite some time. Google ratings are great.
Have eaten here many times before and the egg tarts here are always consistently good.
The crust is flakey and soft and buttery.
The egg pudding tasted creamy and the texture was soft, like melted cheese.
Qinde is one of those stalls that one is unlikely to pay too much attention to at a hawker centre — the stall has been around at Whampoa Makan Place for quite a while having opened in 2018; Qinde has also been mentioned multiple times in the media as well over the years with regard to their offerings. That being said, whilst most of the hawker stalls around hawker centres do serve up some form of a main course, bakeries that focuses on one item primarily are quite a rare find. Qinde only serves up egg tarts; this is despite the signboard depicting waffles alongside egg tarts as well. Qinde really keeps their offerings to the bare minimum here — there are only egg tarts available in three different flavours; Original, Chocolate and Pandan. All of the egg tarts are prominently displayed in a display warmer that fronts the stall — a price list is also stuck on the warmer indicating the prices of the egg tarts per piece up to a total of a box of six pieces as well.
Since we already have had our lunch and even had a round of dessert elsewhere before dropping by Qinde at Whampoa Makan Place, we decided that we would try only two out of the three flavours of egg tart which they have to offer. Between the Original, Chocolate and Pandan egg tarts, we had opted to give the Original and Pandan variants a go. Amongst the two, our preferences seems to steer towards the Original Egg Tart — don’t get us wrong here; both egg tarts that we had decided to go for were actually pretty good. Served warm out of the display warmer, the tarts came with a layered pastry that comes nothing short of being flaky and buttery — very crisp and would possibly do quite well for those whom like their Hong Kong-style egg tarts that does not come with a shortbread / cookie-like crust. The egg curd fillings for both were smooth and custardy; our preferences laid with the Original Egg Tart considering how the egg curd itself was eggy and appropriately sweetened. In contrast, the Pandan Egg Tart came with a Pandan-infused egg curd; the egg curd is still pleasant though we did feel that the Pandan did take away some of the eggy-ness that the Original Egg Tart came with. Still, considering how these Egg Tarts do come at $1.70 per piece (with the price for the box of six egg tarts at $9), Qinde is a stall that is worth visiting for a post-meal treat when dining in the food centre.
Located inside of Whampoa Market. Qinde was a rather surprising find for me, I am a very big fan of Portuguese egg Tarts and qinde here definitely one of my favourites.
Crust were flaky and buttery, which goes so well with the egg pudding.
The egg pudding itself was not over sweet, which is a good thing. Pudding so soft as well and tasted very very good.
Google reviews for this place also very high, which I feel is rightly justified.

Omai omaiiiiii!!!!! Please take a moment to admire the beautifully browned top and the head-turning layers of crossiant-like skin. When the egg tart is first bitten into, you could hear so loudly the harmony of the crisp fragile skin. I loved how the bottom of the bottom of the egg tart is more firm due to the absorption of all the "ZHUP" which provides a pleasant textural contrast the layered skin. Taste wise, the exterior was extremely fragrant and buttery. 👍 The creamy and eggy taste was very well carried in the tart, with the right amount of sweet. Also, it wasn't too drenched while retaining the soft, luscious and *jiggle jiggle jiggle* texture.

I often find the egg tarts sold in commercial-chains too overwhelming in at least one of its different elements, savouriness, sweetness or greasiness. However, Qin De has perfected each of them to provide THE EGG TART with the golden ratio. The different characteristics of the egg tart was allowed to shine by itself without overshadowing each other, yet it blends in harmony to bring out the best flavours and texture. 😳
