Went Dan’s Steaks - Bar & Grill for dinner before “No Dine-in” got imposed by Gov due increased Covid cases. Had the medium rare 300g Grass-Fed Ribeye Steak, paired with pan roasted mushroom. Delicious complimentary Korean Banchan made in-house, were served to snack on while waiting.
Grass-Fed Ribeye Steak was cooked beautifully, flavourful and melts in mouth. Grass-fed meat usually tend to be tougher but this was cooked gently using sous vide method, so it’s juicier and tender. Pan roasted mushrooms sautéed in garlic, balsamic and white wine, adds lotsa umami to the steak.
My experience at Dan’s Steaks was nothing short of amazing. Staffs were sincere, friendly and helpful, making dining experience rather personalised, like a cosy dinner at an old friend’s place. Will return again
Other than 49Seats's Tom Yum Seafood Pasta, I also tried their Fish and Chip with Alscampi Sauce ($16.90, excluding GST). Tried to google Alscampi 'cause I’ve only ever heard of Scampi not Alscampi. But ok the main thing is that it’s a crustacean sauce. White cream sauce with seafood. Here’s the thing, it is also salty!! Why! The chef cannot taste? Maybe it is me, maybe cause I prefer natural favours. Fish was fresh, thicc and quite well fried though. Dish came with 2 side dishes of our choice. I got fries and garden salad. Fries was already cold and starting to taste meh, dunking it in ketchup didn’t help but that’s fine. The most welcomed part of the dish is the garden salad. Though there’s no service charge, service staffs were quite attentive. Overall 6/10
Other than Marche, I actually havent really seen anywhere else selling Rosti, let alone Rosti in a Coffeeshop setting. So apparently there's this western delight stall hidden in Woodlands- Ivan's Carbina, selling delicious, wallet-friendly Rosti! For people who don't live up North, you might take some time searching for this busy coffeeshop hidden among the HDBs.
At Ivan's Carbina, lots of choices are available on their Menu, but I eventually ordered Rosti with Chicken Chop in Mushroom sauce, and Fried Chicken Cutlet with Rosti, both dishes approx $8 each.
The portion of Rosti is quite large. You can have your Rosti in different ways. There’s Rosti + Sausage set with egg (Option of Cheese Sausage, Garlic Sausage or Snail Pork Sausage). Or if you are a bigger eater, you can choose Rosti + Main Dish, which comes with a choice of Mushroom Chicken, or Chicken Cutlet etc.
Love the crisp potato shreds at the top layer, while soft and tender at the bottom. You can always request for how crisped you like your Rosti to be. The warm Rosti wasn't overly seasoned which is great because it's paired with cold creamy tangy sour cream on the side, which was a nice contrast. Chicken Chop was tender and nicely charred, complements well with the mushroom sauce. On the other hand, their Fried Chicken Cutlet is like our delicious old fashion western food. Tender juicy chicken within that pleasantly crisped breaded exterior.
Over all, the food had no wow factor but tasted pretty decent, value for money and generous portion. Wouldn't mind visiting again if I happen to be around Woodlands and craving for some Western food.
