Breakfast, Snacks & Everything In Between

From its humble beginnings selling outside Novena church to bring awarded the 2018 Michelin Bib Gourmand, Rolina Traditional Hainan Curry Puff has came a long way. The curry puff is smaller than most. The skin is thin and well fried to a golden brown. The fillings consist of potato cubes, chicken pieces and a slice of boiled egg. The star is definitely the rempah paste that coats every ingredient so well and it is aromatic and slightly spicy giving you the kick that is often missing in most curry puffs. I certainly enjoyed this one heck of a morsel. At $1.50, it certainly isn’t the cheapest.

A signage at the entrance promoted this dish: Eggstastic Brioche - Home made brioche and creamy scrambled egg. Our expectations were raised, we ordered, and we were not disappointed. In fact, we were mind blown, how can such a simple dish taste so good! Served warm and lightly toasted, the brioche was fluffy soft and it is so buttery! The free range organic eggs were also soft, light and fluffy and it goes so well with the broiche. Feel free to add on other ingredients such as bacon and cheese.

Located in Keong Saik, this peaceful and quiet nook is the perfect spot for the weekend brunch. Serving handmade artisanal bread, their croissant is a must-have. Wonderfully light and puffy, the use of Normandy French butter gives it the richness one will expect from a croissant. Their pizzas were doughy and filled with ingredients. Good but not great.

The Cha Chan Teng culture has arrived in Singapore in a big way with more outposts of famous HK brands sprouting in Singapore. Ordered the egg tarts since that’s what they are famous for, and boy, it was surprisingly good!
Did not have high expectations as many similar egg tarts have disappointed but this one was very close to the original and tasted much better than its pop up at Taka previously. The egg tart was smooth, eggy and moderately sweet. The condensed milk toast was excellent too, crispy, warm and buttery.
An old classic, and evergreen favourite that’s has fans all over Singapore and across all ages. It’s not hard to see why. With its custard eggy centre that’s not overly sweet, and soft yet retaining its firmness, you are able to savor the wonderful texture. Together with the flaky shell, it’s a match made in heaven and instantly sent me to food heaven and back.
With a refurbished modern space, it attempts to appeal to a younger crowd while retaining its traditional flavor and taste. It’s a balance done right and may its taste and flavor pass on from generations to generations.
