Yum Sek in Hong Kong

Yum Sek in Hong Kong

A trip to Hong Kong wouldn’t be complete without having the foods there. Here are all the places I been for the best of Hong Kong foods, desserts and drinks.

I believe everyone is familiar with this dessert shop, which has been featured on Michelin Guide Bib Gourmand for many years.

Super popular among the locals and tourists. You need to get a seat ticket from the front of the shop first and wait for your number to be called.

They offered lots of traditional desserts here and I went for their black sesame seed paste in warm.

Comforting to enjoy at night. Don’t forget to add their glutinous rice dumplings which will come with 3 pieces.

Featured on Michelin Guide’s Bib Gourmand, this noodle shop is famous for their bamboo noodle.

So many choices to choose from and I decided to go something unusual from many people who would order from this place.

Their fishballs surprised springy and chewy. They also provided the special chili sauce to go with it.

Generous amount of prawn roe on the top of the noodles.

Just a short walk from the nearest exit of Prince Edward MTR Station, and you could easily notice this shop because of the long queue outside along the street.

Heartwarming 暖心芝作 has recently overwhelming Hong Kong people’s social media with lots of reviews and sharing.

Famous for their black sesame dessert and snack, and one of their most popular item on the menu will be this black sesame roll.

They only produced the rolls very limited throughout the day, and I was lucky to come in time when they just completed a batch of them for sale.

I would say the texture is just so interesting, and strong with black sesame flavour.

Back to Hong Kong city area, waking up early in the morning to grab my breakfast at Sai Kee Congee Shop 西記粥店.

Popular among the locals for their breakfast offerings in the shop. Their signature sliced fish congee comes with lots of sliced fish, but have to be careful of the fish bones.

People coming to Sai Kung town beside heading to some of the out-shore islands, they also come here for some of the interesting cafes as well.

CUÍT is one of them, located just beside the famous Tin Hau Temple here. Although they opened not so long ago, CUÍT already gained their supporters along the way.

Famous for their sourdough breads which many people would buy back home. They also served in-house dine in menu.

I was here on Saturday afternoon even though already pass the peak lunch time at 3pm. I was turned down immediately as the place is full and there’s also reservations. But thankfully there’s still a table for me at 4:30pm, which I don’t mind waiting.

My long wait wasn’t regretting at all after trying their market fish karaage sando. The market fish sourced differently everyday and I got the shark meat this round.

I love it so much, the fried shark meat was so juicy and delicious. Stuffed together with herb cucumber salad and house-made tartare sauce.

Another famous dessert shop you can find in Sai Kung town, which you will find lots of people standing around the shop; with everyone holding a cup of frozen greek yogurt outside Law of Yogurt 小滿定律.

You can go with either cup or cone. For cup like mine, you can choose 3 toppings and 1 sauce.

The toppings I chosen include mango, banana and lemon cheese cake; with honey sauce.

Yim Tin Tsai is consider one of the most popular island hopping for many people and tourists, with lots of sightseeing spots around with heritage stories.

If you have the chance to visit this island, I strongly recommend to drop by this place called the Leisure Kiosk 鄉誼茶座. Many visitors would stop by this place for a short break to grab some snack and drink.

Their Hakka Cha Go 客家茶果 is a traditional Hakka snack available in different flavour of skin, then inside filled with either red bean or peanut.

Their bolo bun is the most famous pastry in the bakery, which you can find almost everyone is taking it.

You can choose to dine in or takeaway.

People coming to Sai Kung usually will drop by this popular old school bakery to grab some of their pastries.

Their egg tart texture is soft yet fluffy.

Looking for some dessert after meal in Sai Kung? Then Hookee 賀記 would be the perfect choice.

Serving some very nice Hong Kong style dessert here, with their signature almond paste with egg white 生磨蛋白杏仁茶 available in both warm or cold.

Tasty, sweet and smooth.

Back to my food sharing from Sai Kung when I was here. I have my dinner from this place called the Ngau Cuisine 牛牛, basically selling everything related to beef.

Their satay beef with rice seems simple with just satay beef and rice on the plate. Yet the flavour is so delicious, with tender beef on satay sauce.

This is not your usual Hong Kong trip itinerary. Beside the buzzing city area, do you know that Hong Kong also has some beautiful islands around that worth exploring?

Well my trip to Sai Kung continue by taking a boat to this island called the High Island 糧船灣洲. It used to have some villages around here but now it only left with a few people still living here.

There’s this seafood restaurant on this island that quite popular for their seafood. Which many Hong Kongers would get a boat to come here for their meal.

High Island (Yau Ley) Seafood Restaurant 糧船灣有利海鮮漁村 has started their business here since 1999. As I was here alone, so I can only go with something that I can enjoy; which is their seafood fried rice. Fried with shrimp and other ingredients.

That’s all for now. Follow my Threads for latest food reviews.
