Best Set Lunches
After trying most of the Korean establishments in the Telok Ayer area, Hyangyeon continues to be one of my favourite places for lunch. The lunch set allows you to add on a plate of beef/pork for only an additional dollar and comes with a free drink, all for less than $20!
mummy and i shared this squid ink risotto with huge juicy super fresh scallops SO GOOD but really filling I'm not sure if i'll ever be able to finish it on my own
The set lunch ($30 for two-course, $38 for three-course, $58 for five-course) at this highly acclaimed restaurant (it's no.1 on our 2016 Hot 100 list!) is a value-for-money way to experience chef Rishi Naleendra's take on modern Australian cuisine. Get the three-course for a holistic experience that won't leave you feeling over-stuffed. The crispy-skinned Barramundi with charred lettuce, prawn floss and onion is an iconic main, but we also really enjoyed the complex profile of the Roast Pumpkin with spiced cashew nuts, kale and pumpkin seeds. Get the laksa-inspired dessert (if it's available) for something different — it's a really unique manly dish for those who don't fancy anything too sweet. We, on the other hand, loved the delicate flavours of the honeydew melon dessert.

If you work in the Tanjong Pagar area and have yet to savour the set lunch at boCHINche, it's time to right that wrong. This modern Argentinian restaurant serves what we reckon is the most value-for-money lunch set in this guide. The Prix Fixe Menu comes with a choice of Two Courses ($27) and Three Courses ($32, includes dessert) with dishes rotating weekly. Before heading down, check their Instagram for the latest menu. Thankfully, the crowd-favourite rib-eye steak is a mainstay — think 180g of meltingly tender Argentinian beef served with a side of wedges and a yummy chimichurri mayo. During our meal there, we thoroughly enjoyed the alternative main of prawn and scallop open lasagna, and their excellent dessert of sponge cake with mixed berries and yerba mate sorbet. Portions are generous, so we recommend sharing one dessert between two!

Whatever your victory, celebrate it at VLV, a posh lounge and restaurant housed in a two-storey conservation building along Clarke Quay. Head to the 140-seater second floor, where its combination of lush interiors decorated with Chinese touches, impeccable service and eight-course set lunch ($98 for four pax) is set to win over any client of yours. You won't find many Chinese restaurants in Singapore offering eight courses for lunch at just $30 per person, so know that this is great bang for your buck! Out of the eight dishes we had, the pan fried carrot cake, sweet and sour Chilean seabass, and the braised noodles with enoki mushroom and bean sprout stood out. While they might sound like ordinary dishes that you can find on just about any other Chinese menu, these won us over with their flawless execution alongside the unique ambience.

At just $15 for two courses and $18 for three courses, we love that this competitively priced set lunch in town changes their offerings every two weeks to keep things interesting. The icing on the cake is that this set lunch is available on weekends too! It's great for a casual business meeting in Orchard, as well as for lunch with the girlfriends between hitting the shops. According to Burppler Dex Neo, the food is hearty and satisfying, albeit not mindblowing. For the current menu, he enjoyed the comforting starter of onsen tamago with ponzu and ikura, while the main of miso chicken was both tasty and filling.

The four course set lunch was really reasonably priced at $25+, & only came up to $16 after the 40% off (till 23/4) the medium rare ribeye was particularly memorable and paired well with the oozy eggs and crunchy rice puffs
