Seah Im Insider
Unremarkable gado gado with a chunky but mild peanut sauce and overcooked, mushy ketupat. Their mee rubus seems to be a popular item though so I might give that a go next time! #BurppleSeahImFoodCentre

Queues already start forming here around 11:30am for cheap and tasty Chinese vegetarian food, just before the noon time office lunch crowd invasion of Seah Im Food Centre.
The ābeehoonā or rice vermicelli seems to be the carbohydrate of choice here, but I opt for rice instead to better soak up the mildly spicy, coconut-y curry vegetables I order. Fluffy tofu puffs, mock meat covered in sweet glaze, toasty mock ikan bilis and a mock breaded fish fillet are piled high on my plate for a very reasonable $4.50 that keeps me full for the rest of the day. #BurppleSeahImFoodCentre

The long queue during office hour lunch time attests to the quality of this very value for money plate of duck rice -- fragrant, toothsome rice is peppered with tiny cubes of yam, and the thinly sliced pieces of dark sauce covered boneless duck are soft and tender to the bite. I add tau pok, braised egg and fish cake to the mix because I am greedy. Incredulously all the extras only set me back by 60 cents! Truly a bargain for the belly, considering that each order also comes with a tasty bowl of herbal soup.

Crunchy battered chicken quarter that's been conveniently chopped up and smothered in a sweet and spicy sambal sauce and served with chicken rice. The meat was tender and the rice, sufficiently fragrant, but what I loved was the self-serve bucket of crispy battered bits that I piled on high over my rice! A tasty and filling dish at an affordable price.

Freshly wok-fired fried rice topped with a large fried chicken and addictive crunchy battered flour bits. The extra spicy sambal pedas will leave your mouth burning, yet craving for more.

Smoky fried rice with hints of sour tom yum, pity about the lone shrimp and tiny piece of squid. The taste gets one dimensional pretty quick, thankfully the tangy chilli sauce breaks the monotony somewhat. Would I order this again? Probably not.

Sometimes while passing a Malay food stall at the hawker centre I give in to temptation and get these deep fried delights if I happen to spot them. These vegetable fritters containing julienned carrot and cabbage were satisfylingly crunchy and not too doughy, and served with a sweet and spicy Thai chilli-esque sauce. Great for a light afternoon snack or whenever you're feeling peckish.

I went for the upsized version($3 for standard portion) which snagged me a large bowl of soup with 6 huge fishballs and a generous amount of noodles. The chilli sauce was lacking in heat and even though I asked for vinegar, it didn't come through very strongly. Also sadly missing were pork lard cubes you tend to find in fishball noodles served elsewhere. All things considered, it was an OK meal which made up for what it lacked in quality, with quantity.
