This pastry is as complex as it can be. Underneath that flaky exterior, contains a yam paste followed by a mochi enveloping a golden-orange salted duck egg yolk. Somehow, the sweetness from the yam, saltiness from the yolk, combine with the crisp texture of the pastry and the chewiness of the mochi goes amazingly well together! The pastry is so thin that with the slightest pressure, it turns to powder. Cut it to half and it will reveal a colour palette which is simply gorgeous.

Similar to our Teochew mooncake, this feathery puffs envelopes a creamy rich taro puree. As you cut into it, you can see perfectly defined layers of the flaky pastry. The vibrant purple colour and aroma of the taro purée coming through is very inviting which makes my mouth salivate with anticipation. Even the pastry itself is taro flavoured! These gems are made fresh daily without any preservatives and it must be consumed in 5 days from the day of purchase. So, if you are planning to bring these home as gifts, this bakery provides services where they will bake a fresh batch, pack and send it to you at the airport on the day of your departure.

This cake is best eaten cold. The texture of the cake is so smooth and so fine that it gives you that almost melt-in-your-mouth experience. The cake vanishes like cotton candy as you bite into it leaving a lovely nutty flavour behind. Since it is so rich in taste, one small piece is already too much for my taste buds to handle. Yums!

These round shaped pancake like cakes are crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside and filled with a sweetened azuki red bean paste. This cake is very similar to the Japanese doriyaki cake.

Walk around the street while munching on this stick of sweet-oily goodness and you’ll fit right in with the crowd. The meat is tenderly juicy and the oil which trickles down form the sausage has that smokey honey like sweetness

Ask any Taiwanese here and there is no doubt they would say Jiu Fen produces the best tasting taro balls. The taro balls here have that QQ texture yet didn’t stick to your teeth and you can really taste the Taro with every bite. This is the real deal!

I love Mochi and anything which is green tea flavoured. This dessert is the combination of both of my favourite food. Chewy cooling mochi encasing my favourite matcha paste topped off with some red beans. The mochi skin is soft and fluffy as a pillow while the filling has that authentic premium green tea taste. This is something me nor my taste bud would ever forget.
