Hope everyone had a great one with their beloved mothers! 😚 Flashback to this eye catching Tim Ho Wan's new item, fried milk custard. The salivating and rich milk custard burst blissfully in our mouth upon the first bite.
Inhaling One Kueh at a Time (pun intended), their colourful handmade Teochew kuehs should be no stranger to many (at least to those serious about kuehs). Each meticulously filled with a generous amount of filling, it was tough to pick a favourite out of the array of Soon Kuehs they offer as all were exceptionally good. The slightly sticky, chewy and translucent skin was so thin and even.
For the unanimous and safe choice, have a go at their traditional crunchy mang kuang (turnip) with black fungus and dried shrimps - that was juicy and fragrant. The gu chai (chives) were also flavourful and exploding with ingredients. Or surprise yourself with a vibrant Beetroot Kueh that was nicely balanced with none of that pungent earthy taste. Their png kueh too, is white instead of the typical pink as no artificial food coloring is used. Thus, one right after another, you know where to satisfy your kueh-zy kueh cravings.
From the Cantonese Hor Fun stall at Bukit Timah Food Centre. This stall has brought me great joy and something to look forward to every Monday despite the limited options around the food centre (even though I would reach the food centre before the stall opens, and I would have to rush my way to school after finishing the plate clean in order not to be late for class). It's always a good feeling when I slurp on the silky smooth rice noodles with the light tasting gravy — less sugar, less salt and no MSG as promised. This time round I have opted for the fried dumpling variant instead, and definitely enjoyed the crisp dumplings that envelops a good amount of chunky meat within that's good to even have alone. Chili adds a little zesty zing to the Hor Fun with a pretty mild level of spiciness which helps to flavour up the heavy a bit more. Guess it would be a problem deciding what to have next week before my Monday class; would it be the handmade meatballs, the fried dumplings or the wantons that I have yet to try the one that I should order?
