Good Old Hawker Fare

Favourite place for 油鸡烧肉饭! $4 or $4.50 (not too sure; usually Dad's the one ordering 😄) for a plate of soy sauce chicken plus roasted meat rice. The sound of the crispy roasted pork skin crackling in my mouth is a absolute delight😍. Each plate of rice comes with a generous bowl of complimentary soup of the day. Not the small bowl of colourless soup with a few measly spring onions floating around. But a solid big bowl of soup with ingredients in it. So far I've had lotus root with peanuts soup, szechuan vegetable soup and corn with carrot soup(as pictured). There's even chicken feet or chunks of pork bones in the soup. Yay to good food at good value 👍🏻😋

Chinatown (along New Bridge Rd, after Mosque St) -- the 辣子鸡 was seriously addictive. First time eating at an authentic China-food place. The menu was super extensive and it's better to come in groups to be able to order a bigger variety. Our table of 2 ordered the 辣子鸡, spicy eggplant & stir fried vegetable with pork shreds. The vegetable dishes were greasy but full-flavoured and goes very well with white rice. Wanted to order the the bbq items but they said minimum order of 2 sticks per item. So we only ordered mushroom and quail eggs(not pictured). It was nicely bbq-ed and they brushed some chilli powder thing on which was fragrant and not too spicy. Overall a different experience from the usual zi char; will definitely be back again try other dishes!

Honey butter was not as fragrant and did not really taste like honey butter. But the salted egg yolk smelt HEAVENLY and taste just as good! For $5 the portion was justified as well. Follow @mrqsnacks on ig or MrQ Snacks on fb to be updated on the their latest locations.

Super generous portion for $2.50 & $3.50 respectively. Very tasty too ( albeit a little salty towards the end of the meal). Got there a little late and the Western section was sold out. Will be back to try the chicken and waffles.

Another item that i often see in pictures & reviews. I like the salted egg sauce. Not the watery kind and you can literally bits of salted egg(?), or crumbs at least. I find that it gave the sauce some sort of texture. Would love it with more of those crumbs stuff though, like cereal prawns 😆

Finally tried this and it is as truly as raved - something comforting about this dish; slippery 'noodles' simmering in a claypot of flavourful gravy with a beaten egg & diced vegetables. Looking at it makes me hungry again.

Served simmering hot in a claypot. A real treat seeing the bubbling gravy! Bits of pork lard & pieces of roasted pork belly topped off this mouth-watering dish. Local food done right!
