The recent cool rainy weather calls for comforting fish soup! Recently opened by Ben Yeo and graced by many local celebrities, Tan Xiang Charcoal Fish Head Steamboat does not only serve hotpots of collagen-filled broth, one other signature is the Braised Duck (comes with braised egg, braised peanuts and braised tofu) that was undoubtedly a crowd-pleasing dish! 🤩
Like any zi char stores, you get to choose how you want your vegetables done - stir-fry, garlic, sambal, fermented beancurd, or with dried shrimps. 🤓 Alternatively, be adventurous and have a go at the Fried Kang Kong with Pork Floss that has been floating on social media.
Last but not least, one of their signature that stood out was the Oatmeal Charcoal Tofu with Pumpkin Sauce. Silky charcoal tofu laid on creamy pumpkin sauce topped with crunchy and fragrant oatmeal. ☺️ Delightful!
Finally, I tried the mee hoon kueh at Greenview Cafe at Far East Plaza. Instead of the traditional signature minced pork version, I had the Sliced Pork Mee Hoon Kueh. 👍🏻I like how the lean slices of pork were as thick and big as the irregular hand-torn mee hoon kueh. Doused in the savoury zhup and accompanied with braised mushroom and crispy ikan bilis, it was no surprise how easily I can clean the bowl within minutes.
At Greenview Cafe, be prepared to be spoilt for choices as they offer so many variations of mee hoon kueh, including mala! 🤗 If you love char kway teow, try the Wok Hei Mee Hoon Kueh. True to its name, it was full of wok hei!
The signature sides are must-tries - Fried Prawn Fritters and especially the moreish Fried Glutinous Rice Cake that was layered with sweet potato, orh nee and nian gao. 😋 I can see myself tabao-ing dozen of these and air frying them at home.
Jiu Xiang Xiang Roasted Delights - This unassuming stall garners regular lunch crowds almost every day. Just. Simply. Look at that lavish portion of meat! 😍

S 夫人 @ Teck Seng Coffeeshop - Famed for its Sweet Potato Balls (10 for $3) that are crispy on the outside and soft with slight gooey sweet potato puree on the inside. Get the platter to enjoy the black and white muah chee too! 😘
Alert ⚠️ Support and enjoy the awesome chicken rice while you can. This hidden gem is closing in one week, and they currently have no plans in relocating.
Famous for its poached chicken with the authentic jelly under the chicken skin, Tiong Bahru Hainanese Curry Rice & Chicken Rice also provides free chicken soup for every person at the table. And every bowl of this clear soup comes with some chunks of chicken meat, not forgetting to mention - it is refillable.
Some of the popular side dishes include Salad Youtiao ($3.50) and Homemade Tofu ($3.50). Of course, if you want to stay focused like me, just order quarter poached chicken ($11) and quarter roasted chicken ($11) to indulge the best of both worlds.
When I'm seriously craving for a bowl of good prawn noodles, I have three places on my list and one of them is the Zion Road Big Prawn Noodles aka 知味鲜 Fresh Taste Big Prawn Noodles, located at the Zion Riverside Food Center.
I'd always go for the dry version to enjoy the chilli-coated noodles separately from the umami-packed broth with those gigantic wild-caught sea prawns. 😋
It's hard to find an eatery that does everything right. So glad that I stumbled upon Chye Kee Goldhill Roasted Chicken Rice, located near Novena MRT Station. They serve delicious roast chicken, well-executed roast pork, tender roast duck and nicely-caramelized char siew at a wallet-friendly price point. 😘
Chye Kee Goldhill is one of my favourite food spots to get a good plate of tasty roast chicken rice with tender roast duck ($7). 🤤
Bbq chicken wings ($1.40/pc) and satay ($0.70/stick) from Chong Pang Huat. 😚 With multiple branches over Singapore, one of them can be easily found at Zion Riverside Food Center.
It's my 3rd visit to 88 Hong Kong Roast Meat Specialist but the famous crispy and savoury roast meat (sio bak) is sold out this time by lunch time! 😲 Nonetheless, I'm still satisfied with the perfectly caramelized and tender char siew as well as the flavourful roast duck. ☺️
It’s raining again… but that doesn’t dampen my enthusiasm to eat good food! 🤭
Warming myself up on this chilling evening with Teochew-style bak kut teh from Outram Park Ya Hua Rou Gu Cha. Besides the crowd-pleasing tasty and peppery Spare Ribs Soup, the Braised Tau Kua (Beancurd) is a must-try! 😋
I also love how Ya Hua allows us to choose between fatty or lean Braised Pork’s Trotters. We had to go with the leaner one to look after our waistline but if fats mean flavour to you then whatever floats your boat. 😘
