To Try (Hong Kong)
I was like WOAHHHH when I first saw this while scrolling through Instagram and with all things cheese, it went right into my list of food to try in Hong Kong. I obviously wasn't the only one dying to try this as the crowd grew quickly when the buns were ready at 12pm (Buns are limited at 800 a day). Although the bread could be softer and fluffier, I guarantee that you’ll be satisfied with the amount of cheese used. You know how sometimes you feel so shiok having cheese with your bread but that shiokness quickly fades away as you finish that gooey goodness and end up with plain bread? Nothing like that here as every bite from start to end is filled with sweet creamy cheese, not forgetting the cheese powder that's all over it. You can also get 4 pieces of these at HKD90 (S$15.60)! Guschlbauer launches new flavours once in a while, like the Austrian Mango & Cheese Bun when I visited.

Also known as DimDimSum Dim Sum Specialty Store in English, this is a gem of a traditional dim sum joint recommended by @ccher – really cheap and good! I would recommend everything on this table.

Few stores away from Hang Heung Bakery (famous for Wife biscuit aka 老婆饼), you can satisfy your soft serve craving and get the local snack.

Sea-salt Ice Cream [HKD 42] turns into Halloween form by growing an eye and spewing smoke from the head. It's vibrant blue is pretty to look at but taste wise seems to fall slightly short as the sea-salt flavor was almost undetectable.
.
Another point to note. While operating hours state to start at 11am, I waited till 12 noon before the staff drew the shutters and commence business. 😒
.
Pretty purple buns plus the oozing cheese pork fillet definitely added some plus points to its appealing factor.

It is a bliss to be able to find high quality Japanese food products in Hong Kong without actually having to travel to Japan. Eating that generous amount of hojicha and matcha cream rolled in spongy cakes itself is already an enjoyment.
.
But coming from a country that produces decent roll cakes, that price tag seems to be a little hefty and painful to my pocket. *ouch*

As if liu sha on its own is not sinful enough, Urban Bakery had to inject it into a flaky, buttery croissant. The croissant itself was super light and crispy outside, while still remaining very fluffy inside. If eaten fresh (within a day) the liu sha custard retains its thick consistency, and doesn't soak into the the croissant. It isn't too rich, so it's not jelat despite all the butter you're consuming with each one. If anything, you probably won't be able to stop at one, and will only think of the repercussions (calorie-wise) later. Definitely should get this when you're in HK.

These beef noodles were soooo good. While usually there is a long queue, we were lucky enough to get a seat under 5. Don't let the clear soup fool you. It is incredibly flavourful and tasty, but super light. So you can basically keep slurping it down with no inhibitions. The beehoon also was well-cooked, with a springy texture. However the star was undoubtedly the beef brisket. It was mad tender, and flavourful on its own. It just falls apart in your mouth as well.
The curry sauce version is not lacking either. The noodles were basically mee pok, but thinner and a lot more palatable imo. It was almost a kway teow consistency. The curry sauce, while thick, didn't feel jelat, and it was super addictive to slurp the curry noodles. The beef tendon was also tender, although not being a fan of the collagen stuff I preferred the soup version. Should give beef brisket noodles a go if you come HK, even if you don't come to this particular stall!

Although I personally prefer Portuguese egg tarts, this place does traditional egg tarts right. The crust was really flaky and buttery, and would crumble in your fingers should you hold it with too much force. The egg custard was super smooth and creamy, and overall it wasn't too sweet as well. Great for an afternoon snack. I wouldn't really bother with their other offerings though, it wasn't as good.

The congee was incredibly smooth and super tasty on its own. It wasn't bland unlike most other porridges or congees around. There were also pork shreds that were flavourful and well-marinated. I definitely preferred that the pork was shredded than sliced. It made it a lot easier to eat and taste it's flavour. They were also damn generous with their century egg pieces, giving a large quantity of big egg chunks. All in all, one of the best century egg porridges I have eaten anywhere. A must-have should you come here.
