The curry itself was watery and tangy with a slight spice sting. The chicken and chicken sausages did their job of curry absorption best as they could, but I was most intrigued by the bacon bones, which were essentially pork bones with the flesh tasting exactly like its name suggests! Sure, the taste and presentation might not as polished as known restaurants outside. But the stock was light yet full-flavoured. Reasonably priced and included with generous portions of beef slices, brisket and balls.

Arnold's has been around for more than 30 years, and for good reason. Just look at that perfectly fried chicken! Pro tip: order takeaway to escape the hour-long wait and sit at the nearby hawker. Also ask for extra gravy to dip the skin in. Really.

A signature here is the UGLY SUE. It is ugly outside but beautiful inside. The crumbly soft meringue is filled with passionfruit mousse, rolled with fresh strawberries, raspberries and blueberries.

Tucked away along the shophouses along paya lebar sits a small bakery cum café. The exterior is painted black and yellow and the design really makes it stand out amidst the older stalls. On a weekday there aren't much customers so it's a great place to just chill with your friends! The waffles with ice cream goes at a really cheap price at $6.50! I wasn't expecting much because of the price but the waffles were really crispy on the outside yet fluffy on the inside. It made a really nice compliment to the ice cream. Will definitely head back again.

[City Plaza] Whenever my friends asked me where is the best ban mien in Singapore, I will usually direct them to two places; my top choice being China Whampoa Homemade Noodles at Whampoa Market and coming in at a close second, Poon Nah City Homemade Noodles at City Plaza.

Since young, these have been my two most frequent stalls for my ban mien (though I usually order you mien) craving. As Whampoa Market is kinda far for me, I will usually settle for Poon Nah and the usual order is definitely the Sliced Fish Homemade You Mien ($3.00).

These are the only two stalls that I know that serves with a clear broth (without egg) and mani chye (sayur manis, 马尼菜). What sets them apart is the super flavorful broth and lip-smacking, ass-burning chilli. Noodles are cooked al-dente which retained its chewiness and you can almost hear each table slurping up the noodles.

Eating here always reminds me of how my mum and myself would order a bowl (soup version) each and an additional order of the dry version (mixed with their chilli and sweet black sweet) just so we can have the best of both worlds.

4.5 munchies: It's 24 °C right now and all I could think of is having this pot of flavourful tom yum goong in this thundery weather. Packed with a powerful punch of spiciness and sourness, traces of natural sweetness were derived from the fresh seafood and ingredients such as lemongrass, lime juice, and other herbs. This dish is best eaten with the fragrant and moist pandan rice, and definitely not for those who can't handle their spice.

Whenever we see this on the menu, the Peranakan in us shouts YES, PLEASE! Unfortunately, more than not, they fail. Not this time. The kueh pie tee at Onya Sayang is impeccable. From the crispy pastry tart to the moist and tasty shredded Chinese turnip and carrots, each ingredient and component is carefully thought through. The crisp pastry shell is imported from a small traditional shophouse in Penang, as is its amazing chili—we could go on forever on that.

Thinly shredded Chinese turnip, carrots and prawns are piled high into the crunchy pastry shell, topped with grated peanut, cilantro and a dab of chili to create a mouthwatering experience. We're already craving for more!

I got the vegan lasagne which was AMAZING. I highly recommend it. The pasta sheets were beautifully toothsome and were not soggy. The cream sauce was out of this world man. Just go. So worth it. It is kind of pricy though, this dish cost me $14.90.
