Local Delights 🇲🇾
If you love char kuay teow, and love cockles even more, you have to come here! This CKT stall is located in a Chinese coffee shop in Seremban, and it is very reasonably priced! The picture above is a plate with extra cockles (literally so much). We ordered two of these and one normal and it was only RM19.50! The normal plate also had a generous spoonful of cockles on it! I'm pretty picky with CKTs and this one with fried pork lard really hit it for me, even though I don't eat cockles. Do give this a try if you're around the area!
Haven't seen anywhere else do this, so as an asam laksa fanatic, I was automatically intrigued. I thought it would be a gimmick thing but it was actually pretty good! Very flavorful and has more of that distinct laksa taste compared to many regular soup laksa stalls. They have air conditioning too, which is always a plus!
This place has been open near my house for so many years and this is the first time we're trying it 😂 We got the Nasi Bojari, Salted Egg Calamari and Otak Otak. Better than I expected! They have such a huge range of food it was hard to decide.. Any Malaysian dish you think of, they probably have it! Price is not too bad too considering the nice interior and comfort of air conditioning
This small stall sells various local delights. We got the Nasi Tomato Set for RM14 nett. Everything was pretty nice actually, except the rice was a bit mush. But nonetheless, good for a satisfying quick meal!
Qing Zhen is a Chinese restaurant located on the second floor of Novotel. I ordered the Cantonese style Sang Meen for RM35 tax inclusive. I personally didn't love the sang meen, but I didn't hate it as well. It tasted very healthy; the noodles weren't too fried, soup not too salty, and few types of vegetables. It was kind of like the restaurant itself, very clean and pleasant. I personally would prefer the roadside sang meen, a more fiery style, and way cheaper. The environment was really nice though!
For a healthy and heart meal, try the Organic Lei Cha in Simple Life. It's basically a mix of different cooked vegetables, tofu, peanuts, sunflower seeds and red beans. I really like that it comes with brown/red rice instead of regular white rice! My favorite way to eat this is to pour the pot of vege soup into the bowl, stir everything in and dig in! Yums! (P.s. it's not bitter at all if you're wondering)
Ah Cheng laksa apparently serves Alor Setar style laksa. I've never had authentic Kedahan laksa but I can say that the curry laksa I had here did not taste like regular kl laksa. It had a very distinct and rich unusual flavor, according to my mum it was serai? The dish overall was pretty good, I would say. It had some cockles, chicken pieces and tao pok, a bowl on its own costs RM8.90 and set lunch which includes a drink is RM11.90. We got the longan drink, which wasn't too sweet nor too diluted, and had quite a number of whole longans. Seems a little pricey to me, RM8.90 for a bowl of noodles and RM3 add on for a drink, but everything's expensive nowadays anyway right?
I really enjoyed this dish! We ordered the Nasi Kukus Ayam Goreng Berempah (RM15.05 after tax) with nasi kukus pandan (choice of nasi kukus putih/ pandan/ bunga telang/ beras perang). Apparently the pandan one is a customer favorite and it was really quite good! The steamed rice was very fragrant, not too hard, at the same time not mush. They drizzle 3 types of curry on the side of the rice, but you could request for the curries to be on a separate saucer. The fried chicken was absolutely delicious! Though unbattered, the skin was really crispy; the flesh was so juicy and succulent and super tasty, very well marinated! The huge piece of drumstick was still smoking when we cut into it, even at the bones. Everything about this dish was great and I would definitely go for it again!
I still can not believe I've never had banana leaf rice until this year. So far I've had Devi's Corner and Sri Nirwana, I honestly don't know how to pick one. At Nirwana, we sat outside the actual shop, shaded and surprisingly very cooling! The guy that served us was super helpful and friendly! Basic banana leaf rice set was RM8.50, which includes 3 vege side dishes, tons of curry, and papadum. We ordered Ikan tenggiri (RM10) and mutton curry (RM8), not the cheapest, but the fish was really fresh and moist, and the lamb curry has this very unique taste I've never tasted in a curry. Ice lemon tea and teh ice was RM2 each. I ate probably my week's regular rice intake, so so so full but so damn good!
At Citarasa, you can choose to share a huge pot or have one pot for yourself. I always get the Tom Yum soup base here cuz I like some spice. Order the individual set for RM9.90 and you get a piece of fish, crab, prawn, fuchok, egg, noodles, 2 fishballs and a heap of cabbage. They also have a super wide selection of other hotpot items you can order at their 'Seafood Market'. This place is FULLY AIR CONDITIONED!! That's a major major plus for me. And the food is all pretty fresh!
This is supposedly one of the best bak kut teh places, can't believe this is my first time trying it! The place is super packed even for a weekday (Wednesday). Honestly I didn't think it was amazing. But that's because I prefer the lighter, more herbal tasting soup. The soup here was a little to oily for my liking. I guess if you like your bak kut teh soup to have lots of 'pork essence', this might be the place for you
