All Things Jap
Featuring an assortment of seafood. Includes 4 tempura prawns and salmon croquettes. I loved the crunchy tempura prawns! Yoshinoya is definitely killing it with the new menu at Junction 8!
The slab of teriyaki salmon was moist and flaky. And you get a bit of fried goodness with the salmon croquettes. No such thing as too much salmon for me.
So many large chunks of juicy and tender teriyaki chicken! Mix in the seaweed for a bit of umami in every bite. I think what made it perfect was the perfectly cooked onsen egg.
Huge slab of chicken that was crispy outside and succulent inside! The tonkatsu sauce is placed in a separate bowl so the chicken stays crispy! I love the salty, peppery mushrooms and the tamago!
Mix of Saba (I think) and salmon, the way to eat it is to mix everything together and put in some wasabi! Looks dry, but the fish was surprisingly moist. The most expensive item at $10.90 on the new menu but you get a lot of fish!
Words can't express my disappointment upon finding out that they ran out of fresh wasabi (after asking the staff when this was served). The Hitsumabushi set ($26.80++) comes with a light and savoury dashi that you can enjoy with the unagi and rice. I would strongly suggest checking if they have fresh wasabi in stock before ordering (unless you're cool with low quality paste wasabi as a substitute). Thankfully, the unagi was perfect. Nice smokey grilled taste with a crisp skin!
Good bowl of tempura don! Plenty of ingredients including vegetables, chicken, prawns and squid. My favourites were the juicy mushroom and the fresh, crunchy prawns. The small beady Hokkaido rice was nicely cooked and also very filling! Love the mellow spiciness of the sauce which made the meal less one dimensional. You can help yourself to some ginger cabbage with yuzu zest that helps to cleanse the palate.
The crunchy tempura prawn was definitely the highlight. The spicy sauce was rather disappointing, lacking in flavour. I would have preferred a heavier tasting mentaiko sauce to make it creamier. But this is better compared to the avocado ebi maki!
The sweet, light broth was good, with an underlying savouriness from the shoyu sauce. Fish was fresh with a similar taste and texture as cod fish. But I felt that the portion could have been more generous for $24++.
Steak was tender, medium doneness, with an excellent Japanese demiglaze sauce. Set includes watermelon and miso soup. Quite worth it for $16.90++.
Quite plain, with hints of aromatic truffle. I mixed in the egg which made the ramen more flavourful and moist. Chashu was alright. Good to try once and that's about it. The branch here currently don't serve the soup version of the truffle ramen.
Butter grilled squid that was delicious. Squid was fresh and cooked perfectly, not chewy but had a good bite. Not that cheap at $15, perfect to share!
