Not That FANtastic To Make Me A Fan
Tried this National Day SouperChef specials instead as Chicken Wild Rice Lo Mai Kai was not available:(
This recipe was inspired by the traditional Peranakan sayur lodeh. Creativity juices had pineapple chunks added for a dose of tang, cheddar and cream cheese for a taste of umami and a silky texture. Instead of ketupat, Korean rice cake was used to thicken up the broth for a more filling meal.
Personally, i found the taste of the soup a little underwhelming as there was no coconut aroma which was pretty much a must in any curry or Peranakan dish. Not too sure whether coconut cream was part of the recipe as there was no hint of it and yet, it was an ingredient mentioned.
As for the Korean rice cake, i wasn’t the biggest fan of it as having it semi melted in the soup and hence, no bite to it was a miss for me.
However, I enjoyed my flatbread of masala chicken with aioli very much and I guess that it was the only saving grace for the meal:(
Had this place on my wishlist since 2013 and finally managed to check it off recently. Ragu has been my favorite pasta dish ever since I had my best ragu at Necessary Provisions (no longer available sadly). Hence, I decided to take my chance at this restaurant's parpadella, hoping that it might become a great substitute for my greatly missed ragu. Unfortunately, the dish turned out to be a disaster. The pasta was so overcooked that everything just clumped together, making it a tiresome challenge to have to peel each piece apart to taste properly. Besides, the shredded duck was very dry. The sauce was a bit grainy and got increasingly gelat with each bite too. As wasting food was a big no no, it was pretty torturous to finish the huge portion.
A return experience after a great first one was definitely a wrong decision. The ingredients turned out to be stale and I ended up vomiting and feeling all nauseated all afternoon. Seems like first impressions are always the best.
The amount of seafood (fish, mussel, sotong, prawns) was generous and the pasta was cooked to perfection, al dente. However I felt that the sauce was a little too milky and not tom-yummy for me:(
The main dishes were not thaaaat bad but the star of the restaurant/ night (gyoza) was a big let down. It did have a crisp to it but the filling was a little too mushy for my friend's as well as my liking. Also, it had this unexplainable fishy taste🤢 Gyoza bar's chicken and celery gyoza is still by far the best in Singapore, in both of our opinions 👍🏻
The dishes were seasoned well with generous amount of prawns and chicken. However the reason behind its existence (shop name) was clearly missing and it was really disappointing. Oh wells but its quite hard to find any good stalls which serve dishes with wok hey, isn't it?
One of the 😰 pastas I have ever had:( Both the pasta and the crayfish were over cooked. The creaminess and 'gelat-ness' of the dish was so overwhelming that I thought I almost couldn't make it through (but I did✌🏻️). Definitely wont make it to my list of 'revisits'😖
The pinkish wagyu beef slices were really chewy yet tender💞 however the dish didn't have the wow factor because the onsen egg didn't make the dish taste richer and eggier:( there wasn't much seasoning for the rice, just torched which ended up making the rice drier and harder. The serving was so small that I had to buy another bowl to share with my friend to fill my sad stomach:(
My first experience that wasn't a good one. Couldn't taste any mentaiko at all. In fact I got this drifty coconutty taste:/ is that how mentaiko cream taste like?
Tried the chicken and pork Gyoza and preferred the pork one more:) I was quite disappointed by their Gyoza because of the high expectations I went with:( still preferred the Gyoza at Osaka ohsho though their ramen isn't that good. However their sides weren't too bad:) definitely an experience that filled the tummies instead of the hearts.
Very refreshing but it didn't leave much of an impression. Nothing more than a milk based ice kacang with ice cream
One of the worst ramen ever. The broth isn't thick at all and there's absolutely no hint of it being boiled over fire for hours to get the richness. There's no taste to it at all:( on top of that the serving of the star (tontoro) isn't generous at all! Very disappointing
