Our main goal for our trip to Toa Payoh was to try Toa Payoh 94 Laksa. Decided on the large $5.80 bowl and it came with plump hum (you can ask for them to be blanched if you prefer), half an egg, prawns and fish cakes. The Nonya-style broth is made with a generous amount of hae bee - it’s coconutty, rich and not overly creamy. It was a pretty quick 15 min queue for us! Definitely something I would have again if I’m in the area. Do come by early as they usually sell out before their closing time at 2pm.

Had these Ann Chin Popiah’s Party Sets recently when the friends came over! These were great for gatherings, with their fun DIY Popiah and Kueh Pie Tee Party Sets, Handmade Yam Cake and DIY Laksa. The Laksa was everyone’s top favourite of the day, but the rest were done very well too.

Loved how the DIY items came with the full range of ingredients you need, so it’s very convenient. The Kueh Pie Tee and Popiah’s crunchy topping especially, were so addictive. They also sell their signature handcrafted popiah skins and kueh pie tee shells on their own as well if you prefer to make your own filling.

Pizza Hut is back with a new seasonal Assam Laksa Pizza, available from now till 15 May 2023. You’ll get to pick from a topping of Spicy Chicken Chunks or Marinated Prawns, on a tangy-spicy assam laksa sauce base with pineapples, onions, olives, chilli padi, lime and mint leaves. We got the chicken and was surprised by the amount of spicy here 😂 Chicken chunks were tender and overall it was pretty appetising.

Haven’t had Fu Lin Yong Tau Foo in an extremely long time. Didn’t know they opened a space in Suntec City! Went for the minimum of 6 pieces with thick bee hoon in the signature meat gravy, but there’s also the option for soup and various noodles. Both the ordering and preparation was fast. Appreciated how the ingredients were fresh and pretty big-sized each. My favourite ingredient was the fish paste you tiao!

A spot that always has a long queue for lunch on the weekdays! Was my first time dining in and somehow it tasted better dining in than when taken away? 😂 The soybean base broth was more robust than we remember. Prices have increased slightly but their ingredients are always fresh and portion is pretty substantial.

The laksa was pretty decent, though it lacked that fragrant spicy punch we usually prefer. It came with prawns, fishcakes, cucumber strips as toppings, while the soup itself had lots of tau pok. There’s also chilli and laksa leaves to add on.

Making our own popiah is something my family loves and what we always do each CNY. We usually prepare our own ingredients and it’s the first time we’re trying out an external set. The fresh popiah skins were soft and nicely chewy, winning lots of praises from everyone, but the vegetable filling was slightly too sweet for our liking.

If you’re not familiar with wrapping popiah, this set comes with its own step-by-step placement mat which adds to the fun!

The muah chee was so chewy soft! It came packed separately from the crushed sugared peanut, so you got to do the snipping and dipping all by yourself. It was a fun dish to put together and additional points to it being tasty. This was one of our favourites from the bundle.

One of my favourite breakfasts to have, Yakun’s Set A with a hot cup of teh siew dai. Toasts are always so crisp with a generous amount of butter, and teh siew dai done fragrant!

Throwback to childhood! Remember Mr Kiasu? 😂 In a special collaboration with Crave Nasi Lemak, they’ve put together what they call the most ‘kiasu’ meal, the Nasi Lemak Jewel. It’s a combination of their nasi lemak rice, fried egg, tempura chicken strip, chicken cutlet and bergedil + a cup of butterfly pea calamansi at $7.90.
