Dinners
Seriously good, no fancyschmancy plating of very edible grilled sweet potato served with butter. It's very edible because its skin is edible, and according to the sister, tastes like BREAD with the butter (I concur). Aahhh, sweet potatoes ~~
This dish confirms I have no problems consuming animals raw, cooked, whatsoever... As long as they are properly prepared in the kitchen. (haven't gotten over that insect barrier though)
The skewered foie gras here is probably one of the more popular items on the menu because it is simply that good. Most places would probably kill this dish (pun intended) by over-grilling it 'til the liver goes dry but gosh this one just slides off the skewer like phwoahh, for the lack of a better description. And yes, it does melt in your mouth. The size of each piece on the skewer also ensures you don't get too much of it in one bite (unless of course, you prefer a mouth filled with all that gelat oily "goodness"). To me it was done just right.
I'm wondering myself why I'm uploading (almost) everything that left an impression last night. Perhaps it's because of the price I paid for dinner (not sorry this is true) and the fact that my spot was lit and therefore was able to take presentable pictures heheheh. Okonomi Yaki here was skillfully done (I mean look at that loopy drizzle of mayo) with the right balance of flour and toppings.
My first experience with chicken hearts was at Koh Grill and Sushi Bar where they serve their hearts a little tougher and more chewy, almost similar to the texture of chicken gizzard. Kazu's Chicken Hearts though, actually look and feel more like chicken hearts. I think I actually saw the vein... which in my opinion makes it my winner if I were to compare the two.
Move aside, enoki! The lobster has taken the bacon roll to a whole new level of gastronomic high. Also, guaranteed to induce audible gasp at the dinner table!
Not too sure if I got the name right, probably not, but it doesn't matter anyway. This was dinner last Saturday night in the office. Two miserable souls slaving away at their office desks; this is the life of junior ADs. It's sad. But when you treat yourself a little better and indulge in a half-and-half pizza delivery from Domino's, things start to look up a little and dinner feels like a just reward for your commitment to your work. 💪 God provides good food which gives us strength and strength will keep us fighting on. Haha damn, I'm overdoing this. It's only (yummy) pizza.
Tuna sashimi, wasabi mayo and caviar - sounds like they'd make the ordinary white pizza a hit-wonder doesn't it? Unfortunately, this write-up isn't so much about how succulent the toppings were on this one. Rather, it's more about the extraordinary Parmesan-layered crust that saved this meal from being lacklustre. Gosh, it felt extremely sinful to pick up slice after slice just so I could chew on the amazing crust with the ba-kwa-like (haha) texture. Oh, Parmesan dreams~
This simple cut of a chicken thigh is infused with the smokiness of a charcoal-grill-done-right while the amazing sea salt works its magic into every inch of meat, skin, what have you. I'm at a loss for words describing the meal I've had tonight at Suju... wonderful, just wonderful!
The feeling you get from the very first bite down to the very last of this silver cod is simply quite exquisite.
I can't think of anything about this dish that will leave your beef-loving spirit (if you have one) broken. A palatable, small but deep bowl of moist Japanese rice drenched in sweet soy, buried under strips of fatty wagyu, shaved seasonal truffles and an inconspicuously hidden soft-boiled egg. Sounds good? Does indeed. It also looks good, and tastes good. So it's easy to see why customers would come to this bar-restaurant just to order a bowl of 'gyudon' only, we were told.
At Etna's, we ate big, grew bigger. Here's one of the many food items we ordered at our table. Etna's located under a walk-up apartment - not an old walk-up apartment which would possibly have created a hipster vibe about that place, but one with a modest, unpretentious and simple facade. The interior of the restaurant itself pretty much suits the above description too, and so does the food. Every ingredient used came through in each dish without being overpowered by artificial seasoning. Read: fresh tomato pizza base, the creaminess of burrata and flavourful saltiness of Parma ham 😍 Therefore, what I really liked about this place was being able to taste everything I saw in my food, the unpretentious setting and impeccable service.

I post occasionally; when I feel I have something to say about the food I eat.
