We didn't realise we basically ordered same soups, just different tiers. There's fishballs, fish sticks, meatballs, abalone, pork, while the Superior also has fish maw, fish, prawns. I have to say it's nothing special, including the soup. The secret stars are actually the addictive chilli sauce and the fresh lard.
Consisting of fish paste wrapped in beancurd skin and deep-fried, Lao Jiang’s fried fish sticks were flavourful and crispy. The beancurd skin on the outside was nice and flakey, while the fish paste itself had a bouncy texture. Served with a dip similar to chicken rice chili sauce but with a hint of lime. A great side to go alongside your mains!
The soup was filled with a variety of ingredients including sliced and minced pork, a fish ball, a meat ball, a slice of abalone, a prawn, and two of their signature fried fish sticks. The broth itself had a rich umami flavour that was rather addictive.
With each bowl of soup, you get the option of choosing rice/ porridge or a variety of dry/ soup noodles. We got the dry hor fun which consisted of silky smooth rice noodles served with a generous amount of sweet black sauce. It could however, have been spicier, so my advice to fans of spicy food would be to request for them to add more chili sauce, or to use the sliced red chilies they provide. Overall, a comforting bowl of soup that is sure to hit the spot.
Featuring @LaoJiangSuperiorSoupSG’s recommended items - Superior Soup [S$9.50] and Kyoto You Tiao [S$6.00]. Flavourful broth accompanied with aromatic garlic taste goes great with the noodles and stuffed fishcake you tiao. This splendid combination is similar to Prawn Noodles with 五香♥︎

Some highlights from their menu are:
1) Double Boiled Si Shen Soup with Chicken and Rice (S$11.00): This soup is good for strengthening the spleen and digestive system and improving poor appetite.
2) Signature Superior Soup (S$9.50): Boiled for many hours, this tasty soup is overflowing with fresh ingredients like prawns, meatballs, fish slices etc. As a staple, diners can opt for noodle (Hor Fun, You Mian, Mee Pok or Bee Hoon), rice or porridge. This soup is one of my favourites at Lao Jiang and I am really pleased to know that refills are available at no extra cost.
3) Signature Red Grouper Soup (S$12.00): There is a generous portion of red grouper slices which taste really sweet and fresh. Diners can also opt for noodle (Hor Fun, You Mian, Mee Pok or Bee Hoon), rice and porridge.
4) Hor Fun: If you are a noodle lover, I recommend that you opt for hor fun to go with your soup order. The hor fun is ultra smooth with a springy bite and is definitely a must-order item for me here.
