Why donā€™t they? One of their signatures here, the Tofu Prawn ($19) came with large juicy shrimp and blocks of beancurd in a gravy that had a slightly sour aftertaste (something fermented probably) which felt out of place with the sweetness of the prawns and savouriness of the sauce.

The popular tofu prawn ($19) had good texture but a strange sour aftertaste that sat a bit off with me. The ginger chicken ($19) and watercress soup ($19) were decent zichar dishes (if not a bit expensive) but the must try, Michelin bib gourmand worthy dish of the meal was probably the steamed fish head ($26) that they topped with lard bits. Great service as well.

Everything we ordered were very good including this dish. Perhaps it was because we had so many outstanding dishes that we felt the tofu prawn did not stand out as much. Moreover, the kids began to compare it with the one we absolutely love at Joo Heng. If you do not have any pre-conceived notion of what it is supposed to taste like, you will probably also enjoy this dish.

I could taste the wok hei in the kailan and the beef. Really good! You can't eat this on its own as you may find it a tad too salty but no complaints from me as it's perfect with a steaming bowl of rice. I was telling @happygreedyfoodie if I lived next to Sik Bao Sin, you'd probably find me here weekly. Their repertoire of dishes may be limited but every dish we tried was nothing short of spectacular (except the tofu dish). Classics done well are simply priceless.

This was well executed but our least favourite dish. Perhaps, it's because the others were outstanding. We ordered their medium sized portion and it turned out to be huge. Portions here are generous so you can try to order the small for a group of 4-5.

Located along Geylang Road, Desmond's Creation is run by the younger of two sons from the now-defunct Sik Wai Sin. Back when they were cooking for Sik Wai Sin, Desmond specialised in stir-fried dishes while his brother, Steve, excelled in steamed dishes. Prices may be steep for the portion, and menu options are limited, but the flavours are consistently good. If you're in a big group, head to this air-conditioned eating house early, or be prepared to queue (especially on weekend nights). The signature Sweet and Sour Pork (from $18) is a tasty crowd favourite, but we found ourselves wishing they used fattier cuts of pork as well as a bigger portion for the price. Go for the Black Chicken Soup ($25) for a tummy-warming dish. To us, the most satisfying dish was the seemingly humble Beancurd with Prawns (from $19) laced with egg. This gravy-laden dish is just perfect spooned over rice!

Came here to try a friendā€™s favourite sweet and sour pork but found the cut they use a little too lean for my liking, so hereā€™s my unexpected favourite dish instead!

Simple but so well-executed ā€” jiggly blocks of deep-fried tofu with chunky prawns doused in that slurp-worthy umami-packed zhup replete with silky beaten egg strands. Get this if you like to spoon sauces and gravies over your rice!
