Don’t miss out trying some of the pastries available for the day, beside grabbing their coffee.
This lychee cruffin continue my fruity morning with the peach espresso.
Generous lychee cream within the cruffin, fragrant with crusty texture of the cruffin.
This small coffee shop hidden on the second level of Hong Lim Complex, yet the regulars would constantly drop by to grab their coffee from here.
There’s a few seats available here to enjoy the coffee before leaving.
I have try so many refreshing espresso and peach would consider my first if my memory works well. Very refreshing with the mix of peach and espresso.
Had such a great experience at @bullockcart.coffee that day, with their cosy ambience, friendly conversations with the owners and delicious coffee.
Iced Yam Latte ($6.50) is uncommon and I'm glad that they have it. The yam taste isn't too artificial, wasn't too strong and complemented the coffee very well. You taste the rich notes of the coffee first, before getting a sweet earthy flavour of the yam. Doesn't get too diluted towards the end too!
If you are a coffee lover, I suggest asking for their Ethiopian beans for their Iced Latte ($5.50). It was strong, fragrant and the right amount of acidity. Definitely rich and enjoyable.
They don't really have seats with big tables here, so this place is a great place to just come and chill and have conversations with small parties. Definitely will be back for their quality coffee and friendly owners.
Came across the new Bullock Cart Coffee whilst going past Hong Lim Complex the other day — the establishment being such a new addition to the neighbourhood that even the signage for the shop is covered in red cloth when we first came across the cafe. It does seem that Hong Lim Complex had been seeing quite a number of specialty coffee stores opening in the past couple of months; this included Generation Coffee within Hong Lim Complex Food Centre, The Trend Cafe & Bistro and Spring Coffee — the opening of Bullock Cart Coffee just adds on further to the number of specialty coffee joints that one can choose from whilst being in the area. Bullock Cart Coffee takes over the former premises of The Flour Department which had vacated the space to move to bigger premises at Everton Park (itself replacing the now-defunct Glass Roasters and gelatolabo location in that ‘hood). Considering how The Flour Department’s space at Hong Lim wasn’t particularly huge, Bullock Cart Coffee does seem more like a space meant for quick takeaways rather than for a sit-down cuppa especially when compared to the likes of Spring Coffee located just several units down the row; that being said, Bullock Cart Coffee does have a standing table as well as bench seating that would allow patrons to enjoy their cuppa and bakes on the spot as well. Visiting Bullock Cart Coffee when they were still in their soft launch phase, Bullock Cart Coffee carries only a very limited variety of items for its food offerings — these mainly comprises of a selection of Cruffins, danishes and croissants that are also prominently displayed at the counter; there is only one croissant sandwich that is available here that would cater for those looking for something savoury. Otherwise, Bullock Cart Coffee does also serve up espresso-based specialty coffee as well as a Taro Latte for those looking for something that is a bit of a more unique take here.
Given the space that Bullock Cart Coffee occupies, we have an inkling that their danishes and pastries are likely supplied rather than being made in-house; the Cruffins also come with a striking resemblance to those that we had found from other specialty coffee joints whom are known to served up supplied bakes as well. Considering that we visited Bullock Cart Coffee during a weekday lunch service, we found ourselves opting for a Lychee Cruffin since we needed to grab a bite. The pastries are being warmed up before they are being served — the Lychee Cruffin isn’t exactly that crisp and flaky that a very freshly-baked pastry would be like, but it is soft, buttery and light; we actually liked how the Cruffin itself wasn’t too dense, yet was able to hold up all the pastry cream that is being filled within. There was quite a fair bit of pastry cream that comes filled within the Cruffin as well; the lychee-infused pastry cream being sufficiently dense and creamy, and came perfuming with a floral note of the said fruit without being too milky / creamy hence not particularly jelak. The White itself was decent; a cuppa with a medium body and an earthy and roasty flavour profile — good for a mid-day perk-me-up without being too punchy. Bullock Cart Coffee does seem to add on to the ever-growing list of specialty coffee joints in the Hong Lim area; not sure if the concentration of such establishments is required in that area, but let’s just hope that the coffee scene in the Hong Lim area is not too saturated given how the competition has become stiffer with the entrance of Bullock Cart Coffee into the neighbourhood.
