This inaugural visit is late by years, because we are often put off by queues and crowds and there are just too many options in the vicinity.
The lunch sets are generous, fresh and in good portions. A return visit is in the works to bring my parents here.

Charlie Brown Cafe, the one and only on our shores has been around for some time if you explored Cineleisure. And it's for a good reason. Their menu offerings improved since the last time we were here, the quality have remained or gotten even better.
The dinner crowd is strong and I suggest a visit if you want to bring back faith in themed cafes. Many tenants come and go at Cineleisure, so we will never know when is our last visit here. But every visit is never a regret.
There wasn't space for dessert as we had sides and a pizza to share among the three of us. But the desserts decorations are centred on the Peanuts gang.

I didn't know about Pastamania's updated menu that includes Hei Bi Hiam Chicken, Miso Clams and Mushrooms. Ever since they stopped the membership priviledges that gives a $5 pasta voucher and $10 pizza voucher with a renewal fee of $10, I have been visiting less.
Oh well, moving on with the times I guess.

The pancakes ain't light, but makes for when you are too lazy to make your own pancakes. Yes, we no longer buy Betty Crocker pancake mix anymore. Thanks to AFC, we tweaked a homemade recipe and it worked wonders. Now, just to invest in good 100% maple syrup, reduced sugar.
Fine, I'll give this some credit, the fruits are fresh, the whipped cream is nice, and the three flavours of syrup suits the novelty.

Verdict is that, they have great lunch sets! And the food is great! Con is that all the cafes are in town area. Takashimaya, Bugis Junction and used to be at Parco Millennia.

It's the standard fare, free flow zensai, comes with chawanmushi, miso soup. Ordered the Gyudon and Matcha Latte as well.
On the next visit, we will try the chirashi and have the tendon with udon, which a number of tables picked. Also the butadon which caught my attention.

But this post is about a cafe before the war zone. CATfeine opened in May this year and I thought the name just scream cats and kitties, though none in sight.
They were sold out of the Honey Lavender ice cream which I intend to pair with my Honey B order of a waffle with whipped cream, slabs of butter, a scoop of sea salt caramel ice cream and sprinkles of speculoo cookie dust (who uses crumbs anymore π) The seafood shepherd pie is so rich with mussels, clams, prawns, octopus that I wished there was more potato, not complaining, okay maybe a slice of bread might help.

I was coming to terms with not ever having the Bear Paw Anmitsu again after the visit at The Cathay last year. Yet, you are back with a bigger space and more impressive tableware.
Maybe it's a second chance for me to get that paw dessert now. But that's after I try the new stuff on the menu.
Most dishes are cooked with love and care, so you have to be patient for your food to be prepared. That said, the wait can be long, so consider elsewhere if you are rushing.
Everything is good here, but your attention gets turned towards the tableware on many occasions because they are either too damn pretty or too damn cute.

Decided on this after trying 23 Jumpin the last time. I guess the reviews about the friendly chef-owner and his delicious food pulled me here.
It was past lunch time but still made it in time for a lunch set. There was a soup but it was served in a ramekin too small to savour. The main star is actually the pasta. I opted for the baked chicken, which is a little on the expensive side but worth it. The juicy chicken thigh with crisp skin was lying atop of a umami-filled Chef's Cream (contains meat). Usually when I think of cream pasta, it's either Alfredo, Carbonara or Tomato Cream but this is something else! You have to try it to see for yourself.
Wished I have the stomach for the pizza too, but that will be for another time.

That's the first impression I get from their tendon. Thanks to food bloggers that hype places elsewhere, I had my tendon at Akimitsu with relative ease.
They studied their competition well. With Ginza Itsuki setting the standard for the tendon market, it seems that the norm is now at least complimentary chawanmushi, beansprouts zensai. Quite a sad serving of chawanmushi though.
Akimitsu batter is light and the tare is flavourful. Was the egg supposed to be cooked? I was half expecting the yolk to flow when I break it apart. And the oily feeling? Because when I grabbed the bowl to turn it around, my hands got oily. Kitchen or Server doing? Prefer this to Kohaku π

Some people are put off by the meat which can taste a little slimy in the usual rendition.
Man Man, by Teppei of the famed Teppei at Orchid Hotel, created queues at it's Keong Siak outlet when it opened and made the queue worst when they got a Michelin Bib Gourmand later.
The item that made everyone return is the hitsumabushi, which essentially is unagi atop rice, edible in 3 different ways. 1. On it's own, 2. With condiments like negi and wasabi, 3. With dashi/tea
However, unagi is supposed to be meaty and fat so it complements the rice and egg well in una-ju, which wasn't the case here. Even the one I had at Hirokawa at Arashiyama doesn't come out as thin as these.
Maybe this level of crispiness works for the folks I mentioned in the first place.
