The set lunch ($30 for two-course, $38 for three-course, $58 for five-course) at this highly acclaimed restaurant (it's no.1 on our 2016 Hot 100 list!) is a value-for-money way to experience chef Rishi Naleendra's take on modern Australian cuisine. Get the three-course for a holistic experience that won't leave you feeling over-stuffed. The crispy-skinned Barramundi with charred lettuce, prawn floss and onion is an iconic main, but we also really enjoyed the complex profile of the Roast Pumpkin with spiced cashew nuts, kale and pumpkin seeds. Get the laksa-inspired dessert (if it's available) for something different — it's a really unique manly dish for those who don't fancy anything too sweet. We, on the other hand, loved the delicate flavours of the honeydew melon dessert.

If you work in the Tanjong Pagar area and have yet to savour the set lunch at boCHINche, it's time to right that wrong. This modern Argentinian restaurant serves what we reckon is the most value-for-money lunch set in this guide. The Prix Fixe Menu comes with a choice of Two Courses ($27) and Three Courses ($32, includes dessert) with dishes rotating weekly. Before heading down, check their Instagram for the latest menu. Thankfully, the crowd-favourite rib-eye steak is a mainstay — think 180g of meltingly tender Argentinian beef served with a side of wedges and a yummy chimichurri mayo. During our meal there, we thoroughly enjoyed the alternative main of prawn and scallop open lasagna, and their excellent dessert of sponge cake with mixed berries and yerba mate sorbet. Portions are generous, so we recommend sharing one dessert between two!

Whatever your victory, celebrate it at VLV, a posh lounge and restaurant housed in a two-storey conservation building along Clarke Quay. Head to the 140-seater second floor, where its combination of lush interiors decorated with Chinese touches, impeccable service and eight-course set lunch ($98 for four pax) is set to win over any client of yours. You won't find many Chinese restaurants in Singapore offering eight courses for lunch at just $30 per person, so know that this is great bang for your buck! Out of the eight dishes we had, the pan fried carrot cake, sweet and sour Chilean seabass, and the braised noodles with enoki mushroom and bean sprout stood out. While they might sound like ordinary dishes that you can find on just about any other Chinese menu, these won us over with their flawless execution alongside the unique ambience.

At just $15 for two courses and $18 for three courses, we love that this competitively priced set lunch in town changes their offerings every two weeks to keep things interesting. The icing on the cake is that this set lunch is available on weekends too! It's great for a casual business meeting in Orchard, as well as for lunch with the girlfriends between hitting the shops. According to Burppler Dex Neo, the food is hearty and satisfying, albeit not mindblowing. For the current menu, he enjoyed the comforting starter of onsen tamago with ponzu and ikura, while the main of miso chicken was both tasty and filling.

You'd have to wake up early to head to this bakeshop in Serene Centre if you want to try their legendary sourdoughs — they sell out as early as noon on weekdays, and sometimes even earlier on weekends. A once familiar sight at farmer's markets, the husband-wife duo now has a cosy brick-and-mortar space where they churn out whole loaves of sourdough, toasts, sandwiches and excellent coffee — perfect for slow mornings. Our Burpple community loves the house made Nut Butter, Honey and Sea Salt ($3.50) as well as the Sage Cream Cheese and Berry Compote ($4) from the toast menu. Hot pressed sandwiches like the simple but satisfying Kimchee + Cheddar ($7) are only sold on weekdays, while open-faced savoury toasts like the Egg Salad + Dukkah ($5) are available daily. Wash it down with an excellent Hand Brew ($5) or Flat White ($5.50) with beans from Cata Coffee, a small local roaster. Before leaving, select a loaf of excellent sourdough to bring home! Note that flavours differ daily (check their Facebook page).

Basilico remains one of my favourite Italian restaurants in Singapore, this roasted foie gras & veal bone marrow with porcini and black truffle ($30) was one of the highlights of the night as were the grilled lamb chops ($38)

Great space, tastefully decorated and lovely tea pairings by A.muse Projects (do tip generously :)!)

The four course set lunch was really reasonably priced at $25+, & only came up to $16 after the 40% off (till 23/4) the medium rare ribeye was particularly memorable and paired well with the oozy eggs and crunchy rice puffs

Definitely on the list of my favourite ice cream haunts in town!! Two delicious flavours - strawberry pocky and earl grey tie guan yin perched prettily atop a lovely crumbly tart ($16). Though a little pricey, I will definitely be back for more :)!

Love the silky soya sauce chicken here and the springy noodles soaked in a sweet sauce! The wontons are also worth ordering! Avoid the crazy lunchtime crowd and call in advance to order :)

Can't go wrong with soft homemade tacos packed to the brim, I particularly enjoyed the chimichurri chicken (14$ for 3) and slow braised spicy Barbacoa pork (14$ for 3)! Super reasonably priced comfort food

Enjoyed the Sumo ($12), a pork burger which was topped with crunchy pork belly and roasted sesame dressing! A pretty good selection of burgers and sides at reasonable prices :)
