You would never stumble upon this bar by accident; it's literally behind closed doors. The minute you enter you're immersed in half light and you start to lose your sense of time. The bar and its low hanging lamps give the sense of a 1920s speakeasy and an old worldly charm. Drinks are expensive, averaging $25++ but the experience is novel and definitely worth a try at least once.
The CBD's best kept secret.
Been meaning to try this place since forever and found myself there on a Saturday afternoon. The mushroom truffle risotto was amazing!! Full of flavour, truffle-y and cheesy all at once and mushrooms in every mouthful. Sadly the truffle fries we shared were average. But when in good company and when washed down with wine/ beer/ cider, who can complain.
Was so looking forward to this! Looked amazing on Instagram. This place is nondescript and pretty hard to find; look for the green tent next to Jewel Café on Rangoon Road. It was long and narrow with limited seating. Waffle arrived and I was like WHAT IS THIS because the soft serve was slanted and I was like oh gosh gimme my money back I paid to get an Instagram perfect waffle haha. Okay jokes aside, I enjoyed the chocolate waffle, it tasted like a brownie. The root beer sauce was tasteless though, and while the vanilla ice cream was, well, vanilla ice cream, after a while it did feel like we were eating tar because of the thick grey colour. All in all another ordinary waffle place, not worth the novelty.
I had heard so much about this waffle and I finally got to try it! And I enjoyed it thoroughly. Location is quite sucks though, also the place is tiny and cramped.
Happy to have found a Baker & Cook in the East near Siglap! Paid a visit last Sunday morning and ordered a Spanish omelette and an eggs ben. At $17++ a pop, you's expect the dishes to be mind blowing but sadly they were quite ordinary.
Way overpriced and tasteless. Also not very clean tables and filled with secondary school and JC kids seat hogging. The standard of this place has really dropped.
Was brought here by a friend one night, quite inaccessible in the depth of Siglap, near Opera Estate. Honestly a little pricey for a hideaway in the East - Mackerel was $35 and steak was $26 - and also the place isn't amazing looking or fancy. But it opens till late which is great, and all in all it was a hearty meal with great flavours and generous portions. What blew me away though was the dessert - the sticky date pudding (not pictured)! Seemingly unattractive and unassuming, it was the best stick date pudding I've had in SG to date and I would go back just to eat it.
So typical OL type meal but really nothing makes me happier than a Tuna san spinach wrap from here! I normally switch the wasabi dressing out to the miso dressing instead and the result is an incredibly light, tasty, fresh and healthy meal. I love it! Would eat it everyday if I could afford it hehe.
Café slash bar at Hong Leong building. I had a burger, and we shared fries and calamari (obviously not pictured) that were alright, not even worth a mention really. Drinks pictured here, elderflower mojito ($18) which tasted just like an ordinary mojito and a Hendricks G&T ($16). Craft beers available for $45 a bucket of 4. All in all, not a great place to drink after work because it adds up - beer by the tower is way more worth it. Could be quite nice for a chill dinner I suppose, but maybe not on a Friday night.
It was my first time at this Plain Vanilla outlet. Nestled at the end of the popular Yong Siak Street in the old Tiong Bahru estate, it's come a long way since my first experience with their mind blowing red velvet cupcake from their tiny outlet on level 2 of Holland Village. What I like about the cupcakes here is that there's nothing too fancy about it, just good old flavours neatly packed in a light cake base and a perfectly swirled icing top. Perfect paired with a flat white, for a lazy afternoon pick me up before wandering in Books Actually or Strangelets next door. Only outdoor communal seating, but hey it wouldn't be hipster otherwise now would it.
