The dory fish was drenched in a Barigoule sauce that was slightly acidic, but the sweet fried apples garnished on top of the main more than balances out its flavour. Although the main star of the dish has to be the dory fish, I do admit that I’d have preferred to have more gnocchi because it was that good. All in all a stellar dish to try.

The lamb in this dish was unreal. For those who shy away from having lamb because of its toughness and overpowering meaty smell, this dish serves to debunk all that. The meat was soft, tender and paired really well with the glazed sauce which was not too overly sweet. The eggplant was also a good addition, although I personally would’ve preferred a much more crunchy vegetable. The spicy Harissa dollop of sauce also gave a good change in seasoning, especially for those who like to have variations in their sauces (guilty).

I’m a huge fan of beetroot & it’s really sad that there aren’t many places that I’ve been that has it as part of a dish. The dish was really pretty with the edible flowers and the taste well-balanced between the acidic pomegranates and the earthy beetroot sorbet (which I thoroughly enjoyed).

Fujiyama Curry sets itself apart from the other Japanese curry places in that you’re able to savour your dish in 2 ways. Either as is or mixed with their complimentary Paitan (chicken broth) soup. The portion, looks intimidating because of the bowl that it comes in, but in actual fact once you dig in it’s quite manageable. You are also able to customise the dish by choosing your spicy level and the garnishes it comes in. Overall a good hearty meal, especially during the rainy season to warm your belly and whole being hopefully.

Stacks of roast beef on a warm bed of sushi rice. Though the layers of roast beef were sliced finely, portion was more than enough and did not have an overly strong beef smell. Kind of wished the egg served was soft boiled but it wasn’t a deal breaker.

Had this for lunch which came together with a side of tofu, braised seaweed & condiments such as Japanese pickles, wasabi & fried rice pops for your mains. While I liked that they used vinegared rice, wasn't a fan of the salmon sashimi slices as the warmness of the rice accentuated the lack of freshness of the salmon sashimi. The ikura roe was huge and had a generous amount which I felt made up for the lacklustre salmon sashimi. I also thoroughly enjoyed having my leftover rice with the dashi soup.

Dessert took quite a while to come but the wait was worth it, date pudding was very moist and complemented well with the vanilla ice cream. The maple whiskey jelly was firm but the taste of whiskey wasn't very distinctive. There were bits of popcorn on the side which was delightfully refreshing!

Chose brown rice for this. The brown rice was actually sticky (half expected normal brown rice that has not been seasoned with vinegar so this was a nice touch). No shoyu will be given as the rice & sashimi cubes were already seasoned. Asking for shoyu would result in the service staff giving you the side-eye & a slight condescending tone of which-part-of-already-seasoned-do-you-not-get (yes, tried & tested). For that price you get a small plate of salad tossed in kewpie sesame dressing & miso soup. Decently priced but service was a bit of a letdown.

The ika was served looking slightly grilled, stuffed with squid ink butter and topped with a pop of golden uni. I think we struck gold with this one. The ika was fresh and had a very good bite to it that was not overly springy. The squid ink butter complemented well with the ever-so-lightly prepared squid, I guess that was done so that there the natural taste of the squid could come through. The ratio of the squid ink butter and uni was just right so that you could pair the flavourful uni with the ika as well.

Scallops were so fresh and tender, they could very well be eaten as is. The fish roe mayonnaise sauce with green apple slices made all my dreams come true (might have squealed at how delicious this was). This had to be my favourite of the evening.

The crunch from the soft bones came as a delight since I've never really been a fan of soft bone in my food, but this had a nice bite to it without being overly crunchy. However, the chicken meat and the egg yolk were overcooked.

I have to say I expected really little from this side dish but it definitely was a star in its own right. The donut worked well with the sautéed mushrooms, salmon & sour cream, it lived up to its title of an East, meet West creation.
