Perfectly prepared - freshly ground coffee with the right balance of sweet and complex notes from Bailey’s Irish cream (whipped!) and a fine sprinkling of cocoa powder. Simple bliss at its best.

street-styled, tasty (if salty) seafood soup pho with generous servings of vegetables. Also includes their version of “tau pok” and dried squid. Predominantly prawn and dried squid taste in the soup. Good for an experience with a friend if you are craving authenticity but nothing special. stick to Mrs Pho’s for better soup.

Man man still maintains their standards as the best and most authentic Nagoya style Unagi specialists in Singapore. The Keong Saik branch is heads and shoulders above their Man Man food stalls. Grilled to a char on both sides while maintaining the juicyness of a broiled meat. Only wished they had a option serving true Nagoya proportions of having unagi in two layers within the bowl.

With a mains purchase ranging from $20-30, you will also have access to a free flow of salads, with more than 20 different choices, as well as an egg station.

Having been there a couple of times, the sukiyaki Hamburg is a welcome addition offering a more soupy relief from mostly dry foods at the joint.

The best egg were the buttery scrambled eggs. The standards of their tamagoyaki has gone down - went through two servings and far too dry and over cooked.

Also missed the marinated pumpkin this trip but the similarly marinated ladies fingers weren’t too bad.

While their full buffet on weekends are a truly a sight to behold, their semi-buffet on weekdays offer great value. $28 gives you a good range of appetizers/starters and desserts, add on another $10 for a choice of main course which rotates regularly. I come here for the consistency of quality. Appetizers include a selection of house-smoked cold cuts, cheeses, their famous flatbreads baked to order, 4 salads, 2 amuse bouchée, and 2 soups. Desserts are usually a marshmallow chocolate fountain, range of house-made gelato and sorbets with condiments, fresh fruits, crepe, their house special pudding, a mini tart, 2 cakes and 1-2 mousse-type desserts served in shooter glasses.

The chicken meatballs stole the limelight - marinated for 48 hours, the minced meat were resplendent with finely diced carrots, pickles (tasted gherkinish) and cheddar. It was a POW-WOW chicken burger patty morphed into ATAS meatball. While the mozzarella was pretty, a strong choice of cheese was needed to complement the tomato pesto base. Freshly grated Parmesan would have fared better. Pasta was al dente - portions were a standard 100gm dry weight. Still, the meatballs made it worth every penny.

Well executed sticky date cake. Very moist, with the strong taste of dates settling at the base of the cake. Needs no caramel. Topped with whipped cream. The vanilla ice cream was forgettable - should have gone with the default coconut ice cream. Generously accompanied by crumble for a contrasting texture. Would have preferred some crushed walnuts for a a contrasting depth of taste.

Blueberry velvet cake with toasted coconut flakes. The blueberry were presweetened, unfortunately the sponge was very dry - a disappointment, and no berry taste, full of colouring. The only consolation was the dense cream cheese.

The marble latte uses both white and dark chocolate - that was a delight to taste the contrasting notes of the bitter dark chocolate against the simple sweetness of white. Having this with skim milk made the contrast more apparent.

This was part of a tea set deal for $10 - I upgraded my drink to large.
