Slow Cooked Beef Cheek - the beef cheek was tender and flavorful. Loved the blend of kale and spinach, with the rich broth of the beef poured over it. The chunky mashed potato was warm even till the end. Love this dish!

Friendly staff and second level ambiance is a bit “cold”.

Hear much about it so decided to have our lunch there...

Spring Pancake & Fried Chicken - “it’s a very ‘sinful’ dish”, said the serving staff, when I asked her opinion of the dish. Nonetheless I ordered it! I asked the dressing to be separated just in case it was too “sinful” Haha. The signature fried chicken thigh was deep fried till it was crispy on the outside and moist and tender inside. I loved the spices used to marinate the chicken tight fillets. Yummy 😋 You could dip it with the house ranch dressing with a hint of cumin or requested the dressing to be poured all over the fried chicken! The pancake was made from spring onion and corn. It was unique but not really for my liking.

Teochew Porridge - good for anytime of the day!

Teo Heng Teochew Porridge has been around for many years. Their home-made fish cake has always been one of their signature dishes. They were super soft yet springy. When dipped into the chilli sauce, blended with garlic and vinegar, superb!

They are also famous for their fishes. We chose the garoupa. The fresh fish were simply dunked into a pot of boiling stock with preserved mustard/salted vegetable soup, and then served with a ladle of the salted vegetable over the fish. The fish was tender, slightly sweet and salty, just simply good with plain porridge.

Overall a nice place for a porridge with everything made from scratch, and fresh, quality food.

I was seated near Tanglin Halt A1 carrot cake stall. I looked at their sign board and saw some award certifications. Then I observed people relentlessly coming in to place orders. I told myself maybe I should try since I loved fried carrot cake. So I bought a plate to try. The first bite, it tasted good but oops, egg shell... spitted it out and continued. The carrot cake was moist and soft, with a well balanced of chye poh (preserved radish), eggs and garlic. Slightly crispy and with charred bits. Not too bad after all.

We saw a new grilled chicken and satay stall, decided to order a few to try. It turned out not a bad choice. It was a bit crowded too, with person making orders, non stop. Personally I preferred the chicken satay compared to the mutton. The satay was not too burnt and the sauce was good.

Are you a congee lover?

I am particular about how a congee is been done. It has to be smooth and silky-creamy.

Saw a slightly long line @新记粥品 so I decided to join in the line. We ordered spring onion chicken and slice fishes with black sauce, all served in claypots. The congee was not too watery. It was thick and luxuriously creamy. It blended well when yo ate them together with the chicken or the fish. Delicious!

3. Hot chickpeas - it came with sliced eggs, onions, tomato cube and chopped spicy green chilies. The chickpeas were cooked with their tahini which was made from the best quality sesame seeds found in Israel. It was mixed with rich olive oil and lemon juice. This gave the chickpeas a nutty yet flavorful, well balanced palate.

4. Chong Qing style spicy chicken 重庆辣子鸡. Again I usually don’t like spicy food, but this dish tasted really good. The deadly spicy look of this dish might scare non spicy lovers away, but you can be sure that it will not burn a hole in your mouth. It was not too oily and the small bite-size chicken meats were “crunchy”. I just wish that the chicken skin could be removed before cooking. Just me. Haha.

3. Chinese Sauerkraut & Pickled Pepper with Beef 老纭泡椒菜水煮. This dish cake with a choice of fish, beef or pork. The spicy and sour taste of the soup, I think the mix should be with fish. However the fish they used were dory, which I have stopped taking this fish for many years already. The beef meats used were to chewy. I believe this dish will taste better if they were to select a more lean beef meat.

Overall, a nice place to eat and enjoy some delicious food if you are looking for hot and spicy ones.

2. Scrambled Eggs with Tomatoes 西红柿炒蛋. This was more or less a common dish and it was simple one that you could cook it at home. Over here, the tangy tomatoes, with a hint of sugar, flavorful sesame oil, shaoxing wine mixed with scrambled eggs, made this dish a delicious one that you can eat with plain white rice.

Overall, a nice place to eat and enjoy some delicious food if you are looking for hot and spicy ones.

Weekend is here!

A dessert to consider for your languorous tea session.

Sticky Date Pudding! Yes it tasted as good as the name of the dessert implies. It’s good for 2 to share or indulge it all by yourself!

@pscafe sticky date pudding had a soft spongy texture, which is perfect to soak up all the delectable burnt caramel sauce. While the pudding was served warm, with the contrast of vanilla ice cream, they were just a perfect match.

Crave for some truffle and sliced beef?
I was with a friend @tanukiraw NDC Outlet for dinner. I ordered the NDC Truffle Yakiniku. It came with an onsen egg, pan-seared US black angus short rib, drizzled with truffle soy sauce, and house-made pickles. I loved the beef. Each slice of the beef was tender, succulent and flavorful. And when I reached the Tanuki Raw’s signature rice, I simply loved the texture. It was a mixed of sushi rice and furikake and seasoned vinegar. I believe you can simply eat it alone. Delicious!
