The moment I stepped in, I was reassured of this place being an authentic Korean restaurant due to the many Korean staff, patrons and the traditional Korean-style floor seats - well usually those are marks of authenticity right? Haha. So we settled down and ordered 3 items to share, namely the Soya Bean Paste Soup ($12.90), Spicy Pork in Hot Plate ($14.90) and Stir-fried Spicy Squid ($14.90). I was not really a fan of the soup (cos I generally prefer things with substantial portions of meat and I’m not really a soup person) but I thought the others were pretty good. Be warned though; the squid is spicy so only order it if u’re able to take spicy food! The portions of the dishes (except the soup) were rather large, so if u and your dining companions are not big eaters, I think 2 dishes for 3 people would already be sufficient for lunch.

Well, of cos, given how particular I am about food, I wouldn’t have agreed to come back if I didn’t like the food as well😝 We made a beeline for the 2 must-order items - the Char Siu (Medium) ($20) as well as the Mee Pok ($18). These 2 were, as always, the stars of the night. All of us really enjoyed these 2 dishes, and couldn’t get enough of them (to the point that we ordered an additional portion of the mee pok haha). I shan’t describe too much as you’ve really got to try them yourself!😝 I thought that the Capellini was rather interesting with the coconut cream, and I enjoyed the taste. We liked the Barramundi too; it was done very Asian-style and just strong-tasting enough for our liking. The Clams in Dashi Sauce were not bad too. As for the drinks, I tried the Charlie Chaplin ($17), but I preferred the Kamacuras ($16) from my previous visit over this. We also had a sake bottle, the Yamamoto Pure Black ($140), which was not bad, but some of us preferred our sake to be a little smoother. Up to personal preference I guess:) P.s. I didn’t include the prices of some of the food not cos I forgot to include, but rather cos I can’t remember the exact prices😂

As P already had his dinner, we just had an Aburi Salmon Don ($17.90) and a Mentaiko Fries ($14.90) for the food. I also had a cocktail, the Mother of Dragons (gin infused with torched rosemary, tonic grapefruit, lemon, cucumber, lime) ($21). The food was pretty good, but I failed to realise that both food items we ordered had mentaiko (somehow brain didn’t process that haha). Though I loveeeee mentaiko, I think we had a bit of a mentaiko overkill (always don’t think it is so wise to order 2 mentaiko items in one seating). That aside, the Aburi Salmon Don didn’t disappoint, but I think they could have been more generous with the torching; I personally prefer my mentaiko more torched so that the smoky taste balances out the creaminess of the mentaiko. The fries were pretty tasty too, though I feel that they could have gone easy on the salt and distributed the saltiness more evenly. I quite liked my cocktail; though not as instagrammable as those in cocktail bars, I appreciated that it was not too sweet and not too alcoholic, perfect for a weekday night where I just feel like having a cool refreshing drink. On the flipside, if you are looking for a strong drink, please go for other options😉

I liked the mushroom tart thingy which was served as amuse bouche. I had the beef tenderloin as my main, which was pretty good, but as I didn’t really have much of a choice of doneness (the waiter said I could only have it either medium or well-done; quite obvious which I chose haha), I felt that it would have been better if I could have had it medium-rare. For the desserts, the mango sago shooter was nice as it was refreshingly sweet without being saccharinely so.

Cos we were greedy, between the 3 of us, we had 6 different bakery items (Burnt Cheese Cruffin, Milo Cruffin, Sor Hei, Croissant, Tuna Toast, and some black glutinous thingy which I didn’t eat). My favourites were the Burnt Cheese Cruffin and Sor Hei, but generally we thought that all the bread were good and we appreciated the fact that they remained crispy even after being left on the table for some time. If u’re a bread lover, I’m pretty sure u would like this place! The coffee tended more to the traditional coffee-type. The Latte was not the typical western latte, but it was not bad. I felt that the Kopi Milo was a little too diluted though, but maybe cos I took too long to drink it and the ice all melted.
Can’t recall the exact prices but total for all these items was $31.50 which I thought was pretty reasonable given the quality of the bakes! Bacon and tamago enveloped in toasted bread - what’s there not to like? This was perfect for breakfast and so filling that I wasn’t even hungry at lunch time. My only gripe was that the bacon was a little too salty, and I would have preferred it just a tad less salty. The bread was not the ya kun kind of crispy, but sufficiently toasted for my liking. I also added on a latte for $2.50, which was not the best latte I have had (quite evidently haha) but not too bad for the price.

Decided to try this stall and ordered both the Aburi US Angus Beef Bowl Set ($11.90) and the Aburi Pork Bowl Set (can’t recall the exact name and price of this, but I think it cost $10.90). The sets each came with edamame and miso soup, and were indeed value for money. Taste-wise, however, I was not so impressed. The bowls were passable I guess, but some slices of meat were too tough and the meat generally didn’t have the melt-in-the-mouth feeling. I would rather pay a little more to eat at Aburi-en (at VivoCity). But if you are at Clarke Quay Central and want a quick and relatively cheap dinner, this would not be too bad an option I guess😝

Looked through the food directory and settled on Kanshoku Ramen. I think I had this a long time ago, but can’t remember how it tasted, so I thought there was no harm giving it another try. Being a truffle fan, it was a no-brainer for me to decide on ordering the signature Truffle Ramen Dry ($16.90). The ramen was rather tasty and had a strong aroma of truffle (although attributable mainly to the truffle oil rather than the negligible quantity of shaved black truffle), and the onsen egg and torched char siu complemented the ramen well. Overall, I did enjoy the bowl, although I think it would have been even better warmer (as it was kind of lukewarm when it was served). #sgfood #sgfoodlover #sgfoodtrend #sgfoodporn #sgfoodstagram #foodblogger #foodstagram #foodphotography #sgfooddiary #sgfoodies #sgfoodblogger #instafoodsg #foodsg #foodiesg #sgeats #sgrestaurant #japaneserestaurant #japanesefood #sgjapanesefood #burpple #ramen #ramenlover #dryramen #truffleramen #singaporeinsiders

I haven’t been there before, but I liked it the moment I stepped in. I generally like cocktail bars, but I find some of them a little too pretentious. This felt classy while still keeping a relaxed ambience. The happy hour cocktails were going at $15 (see the menu in the second last pic), which is quite a steal for a cocktail bar located in a hotel. We tried all except the White Toreador. Also had one of the non-happy hour cocktails, the Crystal Ramoz Gin Fizz ($23). If you are looking for a strong cocktail, the Sakura Martini would probably appeal to you as it was stronger than I would have expected of a cocktail. I couldn’t really taste much of the sakura as the alcohol taste overpowered it, but I liked the drink. The food was pretty good for a cocktail bar too. We had the Korean Steak Tartare, Bikini Sandwich and the Smoked Salmon (prices are in the last pic). As I was not in a raw-food-mood on Friday somehow (ya I have days like that hahaha), I felt a bit ‘jelak’ after having too much of the steak tartare, but my friend really enjoyed it though. I have to admit the marination was pretty good. The other food items were not bad, though nothing particularly to shout about. Overall I think this is rather ideal for a date night/mild-drinking night out with friends (not for you to get sloshed definitely unless your alcohol tolerance is that bad haha). P.S. Happy Hour is from 5-8 pm!

Situated right at a corner of the first floor of the Shoppes at MBS, the queue at this place seems to be perpetually long.
Black Tap is a burger joint that started in NYC, famous for its burgers, craft beers and (literally) over-the-top milkshakes.
So if you are looking for succulent beef patties with even juicier onion rings, then this is probably the place to go.
If you just want to try one of the giant onion rings, the Texan Burger is a great option to start with.
While the serving size is generous, the food here is relatively pricey.

What we had (prices before GST and service charges):
Texan Burger: $25
Pizza Burger (substitute fries with onion rings): $24 + $3
Old Fashion Burger: $22
Tokyo Lemonade: $21
Black Tap Mule: $21
Old Stout: $16

7-course dinner yesterday (but actually didn’t really feel like 7-course cos the pre-dinner snack in the 2nd last pic was one of the courses haha).
I thought the foie gras creme brulee was not bad. It didn’t have a very strong foie gras taste, which I think would suit people who typically do not like the strong taste of foie gras. I quite liked the beef intercostals skewer as well; it felt tender and ‘bouncy’. The patty of the mini burger was rather tasty, but we felt that the bun was a little too hard and could have been more pillowy. We were not fans of the beef ribs char siew as we didn’t really like the sauce that came with it. As for the main (Wagyu x Angus MS 4-5 tri-tip), we thought it was not bad, but it didn’t exactly impress us. I personally felt that my steak could have been a bit rarer (cos I’m really particular about the doneness of my steak). For dessert, I still prefer chocolate lava cake rather than the raspberry lava cake which came with our set (cos I’m a chocolate lover!). Also, the lava could have been more flowy. It was otherwise not bad though.
With #burpplebeyond, we paid $78 for 2 sets (yes, for both!!) plus $13 (I think) for a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. For the price point, coupled with the one-for-one promo, it was definitely worth the meal.
Please note: We didn’t specially request for indoor seating so they assigned us outdoor seats first, and we finally managed to switch to the indoor seating after asking the servers a few times (they actually seemed a bit reluctant to let us change our seats at first haha), so if you prefer indoor seating, do remember to request for it at the time of reservation! Also, our photos are not in the order stated in the menu (will leave you to guess which photo shows which item😝). Everything pictured is an individual portion except the beef ribs char siew, which is a shared portion.
