I don't know why but I always get super excited when my pan fried dumplings are served and there is that layer of crispiness still holding them together. These guotie were filled with meat, leeks and a shrimp (yup, just one) and were so juicy and so flavourful. Made even more perfect with the accompaniment of vinegar and ginger. π€€
I think this was more an interesting order than a super delicious order. Overall it was just ok, the duck was tasty enough but the sauce was quite lacklustre. The lady serving us explained that they are the only ones to prepare and serve duck in this way - with a crispy Chinese pancake (pita-like) pocket instead of the usual steamed wraps.
Bubbling stew with lots of tofu and assortment of meat like beef, clam, prawn, squid and most importantly, an egg. What made this so worth it was not only the contents of the super hot bowl, but also the massive portion of rice and the banchan included in the set. Well worth the price and quite satisfying! Also a great place for groups!
This was an interesting one to order. I'd never had a turmeric latte before - but a quick Google search of the ingredients convinced me since I'm a big fan of chai. I thought that it was very subtle in flavour - the spices come through well enough and the turmeric is the primary flavour.
The friendly team member who had made the drink came to check on the drink and explained that the original recipe used double the amount of ingredients but they had received feedback that the drink was too strong/heavy in the spice department. I think when I return, I'll ask if they will make it for me as it was intended. I'm pretty sure I'll be a much bigger fan if so.

I thought this was nice - the eggs, mushrooms and onions were pretty standard. The bacon though. π₯ Incredibly thin slices of meat that slap you across the face with salty smoky meaty flavours. Want more.
It's not often you find artichoke soup on a menu. So, when I saw this - I had to order it! It was quite tasty - the earthiness of the artichoke and the charred little potatoes made for a great mid day feed.
No explanation needed, really. This was divine. I was genuinely sad when this dish ended.
This, surprisingly, was one of my favourite items served as part of the Hagi menu. This beautifully grilled king salmon and micro tomatoes was exquisite. I wouldn't say salmon is my favourite fish, but this was prepared in a way that it tasted smoked (though it wasn't) - it was rich and salty. Apparently this is done so that it pairs well with sake. π€€
I don't even know where to begin. I'm not usually one to splurge (this much) on lunch but the occasion called for it. Let's just say, it was money well spent. The attention to detail, the precision in preparation and the quality of every ingredient made for sure a great dining experience. π
A modest bowl with a surprisingly tasty pokΓ© topping! Choose sushi rice, red/brown rice or salad as your poke bowl base - I went with a mix of both sushi & red/brown rice. Makai has a variety of seasoned salmon, tuna and tofu on their permanent menu but I went with a seasonal special of seared shoyu scallops + ikura (at no extra cost) which was nicely seasoned and delightfully salty. All this comes with an assortment of vegetables and a little scoop of guacamole (what?). Definitely worth the price.
The best thing to have on a rainy midweek day. Rich, creamy and full of flavour. I love piling on the sambal to add a little more of a spicy punch.
