Apple cider glaze was pretty good - sweet but with a nice zing at the end - while the meat was fall-off-the-bone tender. Unfortunately, the servings were tiny 😢 Definitely wouldn’t pay this price without burpple beyond...
Pistachio and dark chocolate fondente 😌 what this gelato lacks in creaminess, it makes up for in flavour! The richness of the pistachio and dark choc was really unrivalled (and that’s comparing it to all the gelatos I’ve had in Italy!) but that being said, the dark choc did get sooo dark and rich that I was a bit sick of the bitterness towards the end. Good gelato nonetheless but I still wish it could be smoother and creamier instead of chunky!
Pro tip: it costs the same to get a cone and a cup! I’d say go for the cone any day (the scoops are bigger here too)
The ravioli came in a bread bowl which is then carved open, allowing the aroma from the truffle mushroom cream to engulf you in waves 🤤 But the 💯 presentation is not all this dish’s got - each ravioli, with its thin pasta case, was stuffed with generous amounts of spinach and ricotta cream, giving it a very satisfying bite as you drench it with the truffle mushroom cream. The cream itself, which was more like a thick broth, was tasty with the aroma of mushroom, truffle and herb but not too heavy. We gladly soaked up every drop of it with the bread skin!
This has got to be one of the BEST burpple beyond deals yet! Authentic Italian food with a view overlooking the sea and sky!!
Pro tip: Come in the evening when sunny Singapore is just a bit more bearable to enjoy the al fresco dining and an amazing sunset! Then complete your date with a leisurely stroll along the coast in west coast park 😉
Someone bought this for me from the Tiong Bahru and when I first tried it, I went OOOH. Think flaky crispy crust filled with a smooth egg custard centre! 😍 I quickly googled Tiong Bahru egg tart and this super old school bakery popped up. It makes me so happy to know that such charming, old school bakeries like these still exist. While the egg tarts may not be as fragrant or as buttery as the ones at Tai Cheong or Honolulu, for $1.40, I have no complaints. I’ll definitely visit the store myself one day and eat these egg tart babies while they’re hot!
2 pieces of steak done medium rare, 2 hash brown triangles and 3 breaded onions on a bed of rocket salad. Hmm this dish paled in comparison to the brunch we had because the steak was too lean, rendering it a bit tough and dry. It was also probably over-seasoned and I would occasionally bite down on the salt flakes they used on the steak’s exterior. The breaded onions were a bit chaotah inside (not sure if they were meant to be caramelised instead?) and there was also too much of the fried batter and too little onion. But kudos to the team for the presentation of this dish and the small finishing touches like the swipe of mustard at the side which really helped to cut the taste of the meat.
Again, $10 after burpple beyond which is damn worth it cos how to get steak for $10??? But I might stick to the other brunch dishes next time I’m here.
Scrumptious big breakfast for just $10 after burpple beyond!!! This consisted of soft runny scrambled eggs, sweet grilled bacon, sautéed mushrooms, salad dressed in balsamic vinaigrette, 2 thick and juicy sausages and 2 slices of toast. Everything was pretty yummy!! Except I wish the croissant that they normally serve wasn’t changed to the dragonfruit toast cos other than the pink colour, the texture and taste was basically like normal white bread.
This might just be one of the largest servings of big breakfast I’ve had at a cafe so really really value for money. The cafe itself, although situated at an ulu place, was bright and spacious, allowing me and my friend to truly sit and enjoy brunch over conversations without feeling paiseh. I’ll be back for sure with the burpple beyond!!
Fabulous deal with #burpplebeyond! We got elderflower mojito, skinny dark chocolate, salted caramel and hojicha and I enjoyed all of them thoroughly. The elderflower mojito sorbet was the most unique and it was as light and refreshing as the actual drink itself (though my friend found it a bit too sour). The hojicha was also really really good for a matcha lover like me cos it was super thick and luscious with some notes of bitterness. Initially, I thought the salted caramel was neither salty nor sweet enough but I soon realised that the fine balance that Denzy has cleverly achieved helped to ensure I wouldn’t get gelat. Skinny dark chocolate was also another example of rich bitter dark chocolate that you’d find yourself reaching out for scoop after scoop.
Belly and pocket are both happy thanks to burpple beyond 😌
Hidden in a nondescript corner of Katong Shopping centre is this little old school bakery that you can smell even before seeing it! This banana pie was delightful with a buttery crust, shredded coconut and chopped almonds on top and packed with sweet, smooth bananas with a slight sour tang. This whole experience was made even better with the cute uncle boss! When I asked him if I’d have to keep the pies in the fridge if I’d like to store them overnight, he cheekily replied me in Mandarin “yes, but I recommend keeping it in your belly instead!” Indeed, with such delicious pies, I found it hard to keep them anywhere else!
Very yummy curry puff!!! I was so impressed with the crust which is composed of many layers of thin, buttery flakes. Its crispy outer texture, paired with the soft curry potatoes and chicken within, made this a real winner. I watched a YouTube video that interviewed the lady boss here who is the third generation owner of this place and they’ve have persisted in making every single ingredient from scratch. This curry puff is indeed testament to all their efforts 👍🏼
An interesting twist on the local kaya and butter toast! The sourdough was crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside with some charred bits to inject a boost of flavour. Served warm and toasty, the butter melted nicely on the toast and the aroma of the kaya became even more prominent. Do note that the kaya is quite different - while it was lacking in the coconut fragrance that my favourite kaya at Ya Kun has, it makes up with the strong caramelised sweetness of sugar.
Super rich and decadent brownie!!! This is every chocolate lover’s dream 🤗 The sea salt caramel bits are hiding in the brownie and it goes like ‘surprise!’ when you least expect it. It’s not that big but still good to share with a friend because of how fudgey it is
Heard that Fat Belly will soon be changing its menu for the experience set and so even though I’ve had this meal months ago and this is a delayed post, I HAVE TO tell everyone how good this steak was!!! This is truly one of the better steaks in Singapore - tender till almost melt-in-the-mouth and full of umami beef juice. Just look at that delightful pink of the medium rare steak! The saltiness of the steak was complemented well with the sweet pumpkin purée (I wish there was even more!)
Fantastic deal with #burpplebeyond once again!
