Truly a messy bowl of goodness! I couldnât resist snapping a pic when I uncovered all the treasures in my bowl - generous amounts of well-marinated meatballs, lean pork, an egg and vegetables (thereâs also pork liver but I requested for mine without) in a bowl of thick, savoury broth. This is largely the same as the one at Bukit Panjang with the same waiting time (~30min). Downside is it can be quite hot at the Kopitiam while waiting
Donât underestimate these egg tarts from this muffin bakery. Yes, they sell a wide variety of muffins (and theyâre all really good!!!) but I love their egg tarts even more. They may look ordinary but the buttery thick crust and the soft, almost custard-like consistency of the egg filling, will make you go OOH and AAH. Disclaimer: these egg tarts are somewhat singaporean style though, so donât expect the thin flaky crust that the Hong Kong or Portuguese style egg tarts give you.
This photo absolutely DOESNâT do this massive beef cheek any justice!!! As I sunk my teeth into one bite after another of the meat cooked until just light pink, I wondered to myself how on earth could it be so tender and succulent. The sauce was somewhat one-dimensional and a little salty for my liking so thankfully, there wasnât an excessive amount of it. But overall, very good deal with burpple beyond! (Paid only $16pp after GST and service charge WEW đđŒ)
Generous serving of well roasted ribs but I wish there was more of that sweet and mildly spicy sauce to go along with it as some parts were kind of dry. The meat itself was fall-off-the-bone but without feeling too sinful. The baby potatoes were unexpectedly good too!
First time at beauty in the pot and both service and food were top notch! It was the opening special and we enjoyed the dual soup bases (signature beauty collagen and hearty shrimp broth) for free! While queuing, they served us many free snacks like fried fish skin, nuts and drinks too.
Of all the ingredients, I was most impressed by the fried beancurd skin and the handmade fish tofu. The layers of the beancurd skin were so thin and if you heed their advice of just soaking it for 2-3s in the broth, itâll be just coated with tasty broth on the outside but still crispy on the inside.
It was my daddyâs birthday and they served a complimentary strawberry lychee cake for members after the meal, along with birthday songs in 3 languages. We were really BURSTING (with joy!) from all the food...
Quite ex for a cup of bubble tea but I loved how the thick creamy taste of the milk was not too much to overpower the tea taste. 50% was also just right sweetness for me! Would much prefer this over tiger sugar haha
On first glance, this may look like crab in the now commonplace salted egg yolk sauce. But NO! This is Joydenâs signature creamy crab steeped in pumpkin purĂ©e and milk, made fragrant with curry leaves and chilli padi. The sauce is sweet and flavourful just like itâs lookalike, salted egg sauce, but without that cloying salty aftertaste that salted egg gives you. And that means I could happily mop up loads of that sauce with the crispy fried mantou đ€
If you like crab, I assure you that the crabs here are fresh and sweet, with meat that isnât overcooked. If you like your crab with an interesting twist, Joyden is the place to be!!!
Such pretty eclairs I couldnât bear to eat them!! The ispahan was made up of rose cream, chunks of lychee and whole raspberries, giving it a subtle sweet taste accompanied with hints of floral scent. The pistachio cream on the other hand was richer and more full bodied, with crunchy chopped nuts to add to the bite.
Liked both! Came here with burpple 1F1 and paid just $7 each for an eclair (UP $8-8.50) and a drink - we got iced earl grey latte and iced matcha latte (the matcha was gooooood, thick and creamy and sufficiently bitter but the earl grey was sadly too milky). But overall, FANTASTIC deal and chill afternoon in this quiet cafe, thanks burpple beyond!! đ€
Everyday is a good bread day!!! I gave my regular, the French mentaiko baguette, a break today and decided to try something new. So I got the matcha red bean, melty cheese bread, pain au chocolat and brown sugar raisin roll. The melty cheese bread was soft and fluffy and indeed filled with melty cheese (!!!) while the brown sugar raisin roll (seasonal special) is like their classic nihonbashi roll but upgraded.
While the bread here is not cheap (on average $2-3 per bun, $5 for half a loaf), Johan never fails to deliver in quality. Especially love the honey fruit loaf only available in limited quantities at 5.30pm đ€đ€
Not every Swee Heng sells this but if you see it, GET IT. This bread is way too under the radar but absolutely amazing with swirls of brown sugar (even inside the bread too!!) and the nutty bitterness of crunchy walnuts to balance it all out. I LOVE THIS đ
Was expecting more based on the presentation of this dish but sadly, it disappointed. I couldnât find a single piece of pumpkin in the pumpkin rice and the portion of tofu was pretty sad :( The soup itself was too watery and they seemed to have put in some coriander (which I hate). The saving grace was the ikan bilis that was super crispy and the fried garlic scrapes on the side that you can help yourself to. Unfortunately, Iâve had better leichas, even in food courts!
It was a pleasant surprise finding this in a shopping mall food court. I would say itâs a decent bowl of Putien lor mee to satisfy those cravings if youâre in the area but definitely not the best! While the ingredients given were generous, the soup was just lacking that final bit of tastiness to heighten the flavour of the whole dish.
