Fresh, authentic Vietnamese food and decent portions! This dish is bun cha, which is grilled fatty pork served over white rice noodles and garnished with mint leaves and lots of cucumber. The addition of peanuts and shallots added a nice crunch with every bite! Also loved the accompanying fried spring rolls. Yumm. - J

Open since 1988, we ate at the Chinatown stall (56 Smith Street) and this one was a simple gem! Chicken meat was smooth yet fragrant. Taste was a bit too subtle, would have preferred a stronger taste in the chicken; but I think this is up to personal preference. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Really liked the rice though! According to a write up on the stall - "a special ingredient of onion is added, which adds a unique hint of sweetness to the rice". The dish also goes well with a dollop of beansprouts which you can order separately. - J

Another standout from our evening at @esquinasg - this paella was rich and flavourful with lobster with some crispy rice grains adding a delectable crunch to each bite. Sugar snap peas balanced out the strong flavours of the paella to clear the palate. Yum!!

Brought C out for her birthday dinner yesterday at this quaint hole-in-the-wall styled Spanish eatery. This was one of the starter options and it was already intriguing; cauliflower as a stand-alone dish?
Such a brilliant blend of tastes - the cauliflower was roasted to a crisp golden complete with charred edges. Finished off with a liberal shower of ham and cheese adding a slightly salty finish to the mouthful. Such simple ingredients but combined so perfectly. .

There’s a nice chunkiness to the bite and you can feel a meatiness to the balls. Noodles are mixed in a blend of vinegar and chilli (or tomato sauce) topped with pork lard fat. Sinful, but amazing! .

I was pleasantly surprised when I had this drink! It stands out from the ocean of bubble tea shops out there by using actual fruit in their tea. And they are also generous with their portions - so refreshing on a hot day (like the ones we’ve been having lately!) The drink is already sweet by itself and it’s steady good with 25% sugar.

I look for three things in awesome beef noodles - thick, flavourful gravy (I love it dry), tender and juicy sliced beef and springy, slightly al dente noodles. Happy to say this stall delivers on all 3! Portion is fantastic too. .

This stall seems to have taken the “focus on one thing and do it exceedingly well” philosophy to heart. They only serve ONE dish - but it’s so good you won’t ever complain about the lack of variety.
Rice is well fried; neither mushy nor dry and it has lots of wok hei flavour going for it. You can also add luncheon meat, egg, prawns and ikan bills as sides! Come early, as queues start snaking from 12pm and they usually sell out by 2pm. Well worth the wait though!! .

Don’t let the cheesy name turn you off, this place serves mean mac and cheese and pastas in cute little jars / containers. In the Smoked Duck Mac and Cheese, they are generous with the portions of cheese! Though the portion looks small, don’t underestimate it as it’s quite filling and jelak after you finish eating! Could have used a bit more smoked duck though, the flavour was buried in the mix of the mac and cheese.
This place is perfect for lunch / brunch since they have a 1-1 deal running over lunch. .
