🍴Charcoal Waffle ($6.50) with Apiary ($4.70) and Caramelised Strawberry ($4.20)

Apiary (noun): a place where bees are kept — so you can be sure I had an extremely sweet time there! Especially after dinner, it's a great place to chill with some lovely dessert, a relaxed atmosphere and friendly, responsible staff.

I really loved their charcoal waffle, which was chewy on the inside, crispy on the outside and not overly dense. Apart from a lightly smoky, earthy flavour, the charcoal waffle is mostly #forthegram for a slight 50 cents top-up from their regular waffles. I loved their Caramelised Strawberry, which was creamy and smooth with a generous serving of real strawberry bits. The intensity of the strawberry flavour was just spot-on, without being too subtle nor overwhelmingly sweet.

We also decided to go for their Apiary since it's named after the cafe (or the other way around??) — it's honey-infused ice cream with cacao nibs. I felt this was a pretty unique option and enjoyed how the cacao nibs gave a new element of texture to each bite, and appreciated the strong honey taste.

from @eatkrapow, we had the 𝘾𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙥𝙮 𝙏𝙝𝙖𝙞 𝘾𝙝𝙞𝙘𝙠𝙚𝙣 𝙒𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨 [$15] to start, which were crisp and flavourful 👌🏻 later on, we had their 𝙋𝙖𝙙 𝙏𝙝𝙖𝙞 𝘿𝙤𝙪𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙀𝙜𝙜 & 𝙏𝙤𝙛𝙪 [$24], which was my favourite dish of all 🤤 texture wise, it was slightly sticky, and we all loved how it wasn’t too oily and therefore less gelat!

went to try the dons from the newly-opened @kushiboysg 🍚✨ josh got the 🐷 𝙋𝙤𝙧𝙠 𝙆𝙖𝙩𝙨𝙪 𝘿𝙤𝙣 [$14.9] while i got the 🎣 𝙈𝙞𝙣𝙞 𝙐𝙣𝙖𝙜𝙞 𝘿𝙤𝙣 [$10.9]
the quality of the food was up to standard and i liked the simplicity of the menu! my grilled unagi had a nice touch of smokiness, complemented by the sweetness from the accompanying glaze. my only gripe is that the portion of the mini bowls is a bit too small for its price ($10.9 is a bit much for a meal in a soup bowl) 😕 i finished it in a few mouthfuls... so the moral of the story is to just pay $4 more for the decently sized bowl 👌🏻

LOOK AT THAT MARVELLOUS PULL 🤤 so much cheese inside too!

having received so much hype online, the 𝘾𝙝𝙤𝙘𝙤𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙇𝙖𝙫𝙖 𝘾𝙖𝙠𝙚 [$12] was a must-try for us 🤪 served with a minimalistic touch, the lava cake came as an unassuming rectangular bar save for a few fancy gold specks on its exterior. however, it was only when we cut into it (SEE THE VID) that we understood why it was so highly-raved. i have come across many failed lava cakes, but this certainly wasn't one of them!! oozing ever so smoothly from the cake, the lava was extremely fluid without coming across as diluted, and the accompanying cake was delightfully fudgy! 🤤 the ice cream was kind of meh but i guess it's not the star of the dish so it's alright HAHA

After queuing for quite some time during the lunch hour madness, I managed to get the 🍜 𝙎𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙖𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙚-𝙎𝙩𝙮𝙡𝙚 𝙍𝙖𝙢𝙚𝙣 [$9] in the smallest size. I would say that it was pretty good (I mean, I wouldn’t expect any less of noodles I paid this price for). The ‘ramen’ is somewhat like wanton mee: thin, springy and firm. I’m not typically a fan of chashu, but the slice that came with this bowl was really tender :) The part that Nicole and I liked the most was the potato-wrapped prawns—shrimp wrapped in a crisp, rosti-like potato. The way the potato strips coiled around the shrimp reminded me of the tornado potato sticks they sell in Korean street food markets 😍
🍲 Overall: Is it worth it? Well, it was a pretty tasty bowl of noodles. If you’re willing to spend a little more than usual on hawker food and queue for some time to see what all the hype is about, then you could give this a try. Otherwise, you could easily opt for cheaper options all around in the market. Not something I’d come back to try again but… I’m glad I did once, at the very least 🙂

don’t even bother with this place... the portions are staggeringly small and there are barely any seats ever. if you have a group of 3 it’s pretty much impossible to dine at this outlet. the food was below average and sloppy. there goes nine bucks...

a hidden gem in ang mo kio 🤪 nepali chicken marinated with traditional nepali herbs and spices! served with pulau rice, achar and sweet juicy veg. i found the chicken rather dry but i did enjoy the combination of spices in this traditional dish.
looking for a place to grab a quick breakfast before school or work? this place serves one of the fluffiest kaya toasts i’ve tried 🤤 at $4.30 for a set (2 eggs, a drink and two slices of toast), you can get a bite of this pillowy bread, spread generously w dark kaya (had a strong coconut taste and a sticky texture) and a slab of butter 😍

the 𝙎𝙤𝙛𝙩 𝙎𝙝𝙚𝙡𝙡 𝘾𝙧𝙖𝙗 𝙊𝙧𝙯𝙤 was more spicy than expected! again, i wished the portion of orzo was larger, but the soft shell crab was great, really crispy, and the egg drop + the coconut gelato were surprisingly a nice combination~

the 𝙏𝙤𝙢𝙖𝙝𝙖𝙬𝙠 𝙙𝙚 𝙎𝙬𝙞𝙣𝙚 was the star of the show! the aged meat had a rich umami taste and it slid right off the bone 😍 contrasted by the sweet pineapple compote and caramelised lime, this was an adventure of strong flavours.
