Everytime I come to Culture Spoon, I HAVE to get the I Love You Berry Much ($5.50). Made with fresh juice concentrate (not syrup!!) on a fragrant jasmine tea base, it's the perfect refresher for Singapore's sweltering weather. For the quality, it's pretty affordable since fresh fruits are also used, which definitely cost more than pre-made syrups. I'd recommend asking for less sugar if you drink 0% sugar bbt, but it's perfect for me (I drink 30-50% sugar bbt)!

The Two-Face ($8.50), a double layered matcha and Basque burnt cheesecake, was an enjoyable melt-in-your-mouth option too, and I appreciated the unique take on the cake that took the Internet by storm a while back. Definitely a great option to curb those pandemic cravings!!

My favourite Keong Saik Bakery delight is their Seashore 2.0 (⭐️ 10/10), a gorgeous baby blue sea salt butterfly pea mousse atop a decadent earl grey cheesecake and a crispy earl grey shortbread base. It's honestly a work of genius with memorable juxtapositions of textures, colours, and flavours, and I loved how the lighter butterfly pea mousse transitions into a more prominent earl grey flavour. Every bite is just unforgettable — it's always a 'yes' from me.

Made with absolutely no food dye, the eye-catching dome made of purple sweet potato can attest to how much natural goodness you're getting, which is more than what many cafes can say for the heartstopping amounts of artificial colourings & flavourings in many conventional options. With taro cream, coconut sago and almond sponge inside, the pastry has a pretty well-rounded earthy flavour that makes me reminiscent of Burbur Chacha, a traditional dessert prepared with similar ingredients. I love how well the grainy texture of taro complements the lightness of the almond sponge, creating a dessert that is light but does not skimp on flavour. Since the flavours are as natural as it can get, it can be a culture shock for people who've never had taro, but the good news is that there's more of it for all taro lovers out there! 💜💜💜

having received so much hype online, the 𝘾𝙝𝙤𝙘𝙤𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙇𝙖𝙫𝙖 𝘾𝙖𝙠𝙚 [$12] was a must-try for us 🤪 served with a minimalistic touch, the lava cake came as an unassuming rectangular bar save for a few fancy gold specks on its exterior. however, it was only when we cut into it (SEE THE VID) that we understood why it was so highly-raved. i have come across many failed lava cakes, but this certainly wasn't one of them!! oozing ever so smoothly from the cake, the lava was extremely fluid without coming across as diluted, and the accompanying cake was delightfully fudgy! 🤤 the ice cream was kind of meh but i guess it's not the star of the dish so it's alright HAHA

🍴Brekkie of Champions ($24.50)

Another Burpventure (#burpple adventure HAHAHAHA) to Toby's Estate! If not for the top-tier vibes exuded by the high ceilings, earthy tones, the fragrant coffee aroma and the location right beside the river, I'm sure we would have felt even more disappointed. The Brekkie of Champions did not make me feel like a champion: the poached eggs, although perfect and runny, were unseasoned and bland despite the sweet and fluffy brioche that soaked up everything. The main strengths of the dish were the bright, juicy cherry tomatoes: they burst so beautifully on my tongue and were so so sweet - seriously one of the best cherry tomatoes I've had in my life!

🍴Black Milk Tea with Panna Cotta ($7.50), Strawberry Latte with Panna Cotta ($8.50)

Welcome to the bubble tea brand endorsed by the one-and-only Jay Chou! With the #burpple 1-for-1 deal, the drinks come up to about $3 per person, which I felt was pretty affordable if you’d like to try something new. I had the Black Milk Tea with Panna Cotta, which had the deep, authentic aroma of black tea that is not found in conventional milk tea brands. I enjoyed the milky and creamy panna cotta, which melted beautifully in my mouth and contrasted well with the slight bitterness of the black milk tea. My friend’s Strawberry Latte with Panna Cotta was smooth and velvety, with a natural sweetness from the fresh strawberries – a must-try for those with a sweet tooth.

I was also extremely charmed by the adorable aesthetic of the store and their cute mascot printed on the bottles! Nonetheless, since the drink is too heavy and jelak to finish in one sitting, it was a little troublesome to manage the bottle with the straw, which cannot fit into a capped bottle but was necessary to access the panna cotta at the bottom of the bottle. Moreover, it is pretty expensive without the Burpple deal. Overall, I still think it’s a super cute place and encourage you to drop by!

the iconic 𝘾𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙞 𝘾𝙧𝙖𝙗 & 𝘾𝙝𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙯𝙤 [$22.5] was a pretty regular dish, beyond its unique presentation. the portion was decently large too. the harissa chilli crab was reallyyyy spicy though, too much for a xiaola weakling for me 🥵

⭐️ ig | @hooyeats ⭐️

there’s nothing about a dish named 𝘽𝙞𝙜 𝙞𝙣 𝙅𝙖𝙥𝙖𝙣 [$16.9] that actually tells you what it is without any context haha. it was basically three cheesy (grana panado) scones accompanied by three dips (yuzu, honey mascarpone & cold shrimp and salmon in dill sauce). the scones were good, being savoury and moist without being too oily. however they were a little too crumbly to be eaten with so many dips, and just as nicole mentioned, the dips were quite disparate in flavours and content. i appreciate the experimental nature of the dish though!
