Headed all the way to yishun to try one of my favorite food- shrimp paste chicken wings! People were already camping before 5pm to queue for these wings. We bought 6 to try. Admittedly one of the best I tried. The shrimp paste flavour was just right, the batter was not thick and you could feel the juicy meat throughout. Not that oily too! Love it, will be back but best eaten there while it’s hot!
Price: $1.70 per wing (Min 2 pcs)
The Pork Jowl was the better dish we had there. We paid $100ish for 2 pax for the dinner tasting menu. We had to go over to Strangers Reunion for a second round unfortunately :(
Deviled eggs were little cones of egg mousse, which tasted like vanilla instead. The fish and chips were the saving grace. Great ideas but unfortunately the execution to us was really disappointing...
Plating was alright and that was it. Was it frozen scallops? It was really tiny :(
Had high expectations of this place with all the great reviews. We ordered the 7 course tasting menu ($45++ for one pax) and this was one of the starters. It was a cold dish, the truffle taste was way too strong while I felt that the fish roe was not very fresh. Read on for the other dishes.
Nicely plated dish. The chorizos were way too salty for my liking while the scrambled eggs had no “oomph” had all. Had way too high expectations for this place, service was a little off- the staff seemed too busy for questions and a little short tempered too. Have to admit that it’s a pretty nice place to chill at on weekends. But nope, not returning. 22 bucks for this.
Toasted ham and cheese with slices of tomatoes on a slice of Wave. The ham was sliced thinly and the cheese was not too overpowering. But not worth 16 bucks for this.
Apparently a must try so we ordered this. The Wave and the Field was our favorites! The Valley was way too sour for our liking. Would be great if they had homemade butter as well though. $10 for these variety of breads.
Yes, a pitan tofu dish. This is part of the teriyaki chicken lunch set and it costs $6 if you order it ala-carte.
This is 80% of the reason why I have been heading back to kyoaji. The pitan is mashed up and mixed with the tofu with bits of Kani gems. Doesn’t taste like any other pitan tofu I’ve ever eaten. This is so special to my heart ♥️
Number of times that I’ve ever headed back to a restaurant can be counted on one hand. But at Kyoaji, it’s my fifth time back there. I have only gone for their lunch sets which I find super affordable and it is payable via Mileslife!
This is the sea bream with Mentaiko sauce, soft shell crab bento set. At 18 SGD + a seasonal dessert, it’s super super worth it.
We wanted to order the chongqing grilled fish but it was unavailable. The fish was super meaty though I heard that the mullet fish would be even better! Flavour was just alright, made our lips slightly numb due to the spices. Maybe I’m just not a fan of mala kinda food? Shared this amongst 4-5 people. We added golden mushrooms and other veggies in as well.
Total bill for 10 people: $200 (drinks+rice)
Spinach, shiitakes, goat’s cheese - the best combi ever plated on a crispy cornmeal crust. The only bomb I would ever want to have in my mouth ✌🏻
Price: $29
