I have been having this since I was a child! I used to live in tanjong pagar and my mom would buy this often. I didn't enjoy Ang Ku Kueh much then but growing up now I realised Ji Xiang Confectionary really set the bar high for me. I haven't found any other Ang Ku Kueh I liked better than this one.

My favourites are their peanut, sweet bean ($1 each), yam ($1.10) and durian ($2), although the yam sells out quite early and is unavailable when I reach at about 2pm usually. Durian is also a seasonal flavor and not available every day. I would recommend going early if you can to try the other cool flavors they have, and also because they sell out by 4pm sometimes and may close early!

It's been awhile since this little Ice Creamery located next to NEX shopping center has opened and I have seen the snaking queues especially at night. However I'm not fond of Ice Cream, so I didn't drop by to try until I realised they had the Nian Gao Waffle! As a huge fan of Nian Gao (especially when it's cooked), it sounded pretty amazing to me.

The Nian Gao Waffle ($6.80) with Sea Salt Gula Melaka Ice Cream ($4.20) I ordered is an absolutely divine combination, especially if you love sweet-savory! The salty Ice Cream provides a delicate contrast to the sweetness of the Nian Gao Waffles, leaving me wanting more; and like I said, I don't even like Ice Cream! But this was such a good combination.

To be honest I actually expected the Nian Gao Waffle to be infused in the batter, but it was more like waffle baked with slices of Nian Gao in it. The waffles were more fluffy and light, and nevertheless an ingenious combination. I do like it very much and would return again perhaps at a less crowded time on a weekday afternoon!

I’d previously posted about the Xmas Feast from Served With that I really enjoyed! This time round, I’m sharing their CNY Abundance Platter which includes:

~1x Salted Egg Cheese Mala Chicken Brioche w/ Purple Slaw
~1x Yuzu Men"Tako" and Omelette w/ Golden Floss Brioche
~1x Smoked Salmon Aburi Garlic Cream Cheese Brioche w/ GLOSS (Garlic Lime Orange Soybean Sesame)
~1x 100g Carrot Cake w/ Pumpkin
~1x 90g Pineapple Tart

Loved how fluffy their brioche buns were the previous time I had it and it was no different this time round! Still so good! The new flavour this time is the Yuzu Men”Tako” and Omelette w/ Golden Floss and while it was yummy (loved the addition of octopus and floss always works haha), my favourite still goes to the Salted Egg Cheese Mala Chicken Brioche w/ Purple Slaw! The Pineapple Tarts come in 2 types - Charcoal Golden Pineapple Tarts & Cheesy Pineapple Tarts (I preferred this one out of the two!), while the Carrot Cake w/ Pumpkin was soft and had a nice texture!

The set also comes with additional servings of their sauces (Truffle Ruffle, Salted Egg Cheese, GLOSS, Truffle Chilli & Yuzu Mentaiko) on the side. The sauces are really addictive (esp the GLOSS & Truffle Chilli) and I almost finished all of them by myself!

Pre-order for this CNY Abundance Platter is now open! You can order via their link in Instagram bio or WhatsApp them at +65 8129 9121.

‼️Note: Not indicated on Burpple app, but the Beyond 1-for-1 deal is only eligible for one full and one tasting portion only. Only learnt about it when we visited.‼️

Tucked away in Fortune Center, a stone's throw away from Bugis MRT, we came here for lunch on a Friday and it was quite crowded. The restaurant is cosy with an open concept kitchen. Despite there being available seating however, the service staff did not prioritise having us seated, and we were told to wait at the door for about 5 to 10 minutes. It later also took about another 10 minutes for us to place an order as it was difficult to get the server's attention.

As mentioned above, we were told that the Burpple deal is only eligible for 1 full and 1 tasting portion only, so we settled on a Vongole (full portion) and Mentaiko (tasting portion). We also ordered the Mixed Berries Sparkling drink ($5) to share.

Boy: Vongole ($24.90, full portion) with Roasted Capsicum and Paparika Spaghetti. A bit light tasting and I can't really tell what the pasta tastes like. It's not your regular sphaghetti and has an appetising orange color, but I didn't think there was anything special. Portion is a bit small. Usually I get very full from eating pasta but I was hungry soon after this. 6/10

Girl: Mentaiko ($16.90, tasting portion) with Beetroot Fusilli. This was an exquisite dish for me. The pasta was al-dente and the perfect sweet savory of Mentaiko, which was laced generously with tobiko. The serving came with 2 scallops that were well seared, and whilst the serving is indeed quite small if you are planning to have it as a main, it would be a good sharing dish size. 9/10 as it was very appetising.

Overall, the place was rather noisy at lunch time but still cosy. Just a bit difficult to have conversations over lunch. I would come back again and probably order 2 full portions, with the the tasting portion from the Beyond deal to share, as I do genuinely enjoy their handmade pasta. I must mention parking turned out to be a bomb (about $4 an hour) so I would recommend making a reservation and probably going at dinner if you drive since parking is flat rate then. Or if you commute by public transport, it would be better weather on your walk there, too.

Ambience: 7/10
Food: 7.5/10
Service: 5/10
Price: 7/10 (with Beyond, but note portions are small)

Grilled marinated pomfret fish with fried tau kwa, vegetable, steamed rice, curry and chilli. The pomfret was tender, juicy, well marinated a and basted with sweet sauce. The skin on the fish was crispy and revealed a moist juicy flesh underneath 》$7.50

A beautiful mess of a sandwich, Korio’s Breakfast Sammy ($12) was utterly delicious. Oozing with luscious sauce gribiche, the fluffy brioche slices also snuggled crisp cuts of spam and American cheese. The tangy and savoury egg sauce played a key role here with the hint of sourness to counter the richness. The touch of saltness from the luncheon meat added to its whole appeal as everything just came together so brilliantly. There was a nice play of texture as well.

After leaving the restaurant chain, he has opened up this hawker stall selling the signature tonkotsu ramen at a fraction of the price that you would normally pay in a restaurant. We ordered both the Signature Tonkotsu Ramen ($8) and a spicy version of Spicy Miso Ramen ($8) to share, and each bowl comes with a sizeable portion of ramen noodles, half an onsen egg and two slices of thinly cut char-siu. Upon each order, the chef follows a detailed process and sequence to prepare every bowl of ramen to ensure quality and consistency. The tonkotsu broth is of a lighter consistency that you can slurp down easily while the spicy miso has more punchy flavours with a slight spice kick. The usage of the thin ramen noodles is a great choice as it is able to latch and hold onto the broth better as your slurp them down.

The all day breakfast here is nothing fancy and not “one of the best” but it’s reliable and especially affordable with Burpplebeyond. Our brunch items with each a drink worked out to be $24 per pax including GST and service charge which is a good reason to revisit when food is not the priority that day but you need an option in the heart of our city.

This restaurant is located at the corner of New Tech Park building which seemed lovely as it has full panel windows, making the place well-lit in the day. Staff was polite and greeted us in Thai both when we entered and left the place. The only issue is that the central aircon system was very high temperature, or just faulty, so it did feel quite warm. But this is not the fault of the restaurant. The place just felt warm in general even as we walked around.

We ordered Seafood and Beef Phad Thai. Before I move on to the reviews I must disclaimer that I don't think Phad Thai is a determining factor of a restaurant's standard of food, as I personally feel it is one of the more difficult dishes to nail and almost every restaurant serves it slightly differently whether in the ingredients they use, the texture of the noodles or the seasoning.

Boy: Beef Phad Thai ($8.90). I have never had Phad Thai before so I have no benchmark to compare this to but it tastes normal. Beef is okay too, reasonably seasoned but not really distinct. Would give it a 5/10

Girl: Seafood Phad Thai ($8.90). The Phad Thai reasonably flavorful, but could have more seasoning as a very large portion of noodles was served. Noodles was lacking some chewiness that I usually expect in Phad Thai, and could have a more distinct kick both in the spice and sweet/ sour department. Gelatin prawns were used for this dish. I would rate this a 6.5/10!

Overall, the bill only came up to $10.50 after service charge and taxes, which is reallyyyy affordable so I really can't complain. I might come back again to try some of their rice dishes!

Ambience: 3/10 because it was warm (altho once again, not the restaurants fault) but also staff talks quite loudly amongst themselves which is disruptive. There is also a hole in the wall between the restaurant and kitchen too, and some disruptive shouting does happen as the staff tries to communicate.
Service: 5/10 quite good except for the loud talking
Food: 5.5/10
Price: 10/10 ($5 per head with Beyond after taxes)

Quiet and well-lit coffee shop in New Tech Park with good coffee. Staff is quite polite but the place can be slightly warm as the central air con system seems to be a little faulty.

Edit: eatery is also known as Aki Sushi & Grill but they weren't registered on Burpple.

A little small eatery I decided to try; it surprised me with relatively fresh Sashimi, and the Teriyaki Salmon we ordered was really delicious. Portions are good, too. At that price point though it is similar to some mid-tier restaurants, and I fuss about some of their foundational things e.g. rice could be better cooked since it was borderline mushy and seasoned with vinegar. Wasabi quality could be better, as the wasabi formula is a strange consistency that dilutes into the soy sauce too quickly. Dipping sauce served with cold soba was completely tasteless.

Service is alright but certainly not the best. Service staff didn't understand English but also did not indicate so, and the sushi chef was talking loudly to his family on video call at one point while at the bar counter on loudspeaker.

Overall if you are craving some sashimi and want a quick fix, this might be a good place especially if you are dining alone, or with one other person. The eatery is small and will not be comfortable for larger parties.

As above, I have been visiting the Bugis branch for awhile but it's a lot more crowded with queues even late at night. Glad the Novena branch opened up; it's still crowded but at least you can grab a seat easily, and parking is much more available.

Standard is similar to Bugis branch, no complaints. If you never had Ah Chew, desserts I recommend are their Mango Pomelo and Rice Balls aka Tang Yuan (available as an add-on at only $1.30 for 3 with some desserts but only $3.90 for 4 in ginger soup as well).

I usually have Hashima in Red Date Soup or Hawaiian Boiled Papaya Milk as it is quite hard to come across in Singapore, and good for skin.

Note: location is currently next to construction site so might be a bit noisy esp if you sit outside.
