This was the worst dining experience. Will share why:
1. App issue - Beyond burrple not working, waiter suggested my 4g had issues. Read reviews and see that everyone complaining about the app not working.
2. Overpriced food which is fine if tasty, however was far from it. $13 for two tiny stale dry wagyu sliders. Couldnât taste that it was wagyu, baked & crispy dry brioche buns were horrible.
3. Slow service, slow kitchen beyond reasonable wait time - Waited 45 mins and one plate of sliders showed up. Was told they have a long table inside. We went in, after an hour and that long table still had no food on it, so we Decided to cancel all orders and leave. This is a izakaya with small bites, we are talking salmon rolls & small sliders, or beef rice which shouldnât take an hour wait- yet the turnaround time was anything like that.
4. Save your money and go elsewhere, lots more options and this place i wouldnât eat even if itâs free
The carrot cake has really nice charred bits, and you can taste the incredible wok hei which so many carrot cake stalls lack these days. The black version has lovely crispy caramelised bits. I really enjoyed the black version, generous with eggs, and goes well with a heap of spring onions. It was so good but I forgot to take a photo, and had to borrow photo of the Aunty sitting in front of me.
Ordered mine with pork and prawns, and the soft rice noodles was swimming in delicious broth, pieces of lard, and fresh huge prawns. Small little details stood out in this stall. Like the fact that they used proper prawns & not the farmed crystal prawns of cheaper variety. The bean sprouts were fat and crunchy. Throw in a few pieces of chilli padi and this makes for a satisfying light lunch!
Finely shaved ice, sticky sauce of coconut and gula Melaka!
This is a place I missed so much I went back after a few years and the 78 year old Uncle is going strong. Wontons are not great, neither is the char siew BUT their noodles are so springy because he cooks them and dunks them in a pot of cold water. Great bite, and itâs tossed in this amazing black sauce that Iâve never tasted anywhere else. Five stars for me, I love this place!
Was excited as itâs open by same guys of wooloomooloo. Ribeye medium rare arrived medium, not once but twice. For the price $39, it came with a garnishing of watercress and one single tomato - which I wouldnât mind if the meat is top quality and the Chef actually understands what medium rare is. Felt like I was eating in Stirling Steak almost.
Love the food quality here, itâs decent with their freshly baked bread, spring water & special oven. You can see the Chef / owner pottering around - total dedication. I had the striploin medium rare that came beautifully done, with a generous heap of salsa verde. Not my first time here and the food has always been great!
Apparently Michelin Star but you know what, I didnât do a food dance while eating the oyster broth ramen. The oyster broth was alright, tasted briny but didnât have the seafood kick I was looking for. Everything didnât come together sadly - the onion, paprika, garlic butter. Sous vide charsiu was tender but again, it wasnât memorable. Lots of ramen chains around, and this one didnât do it for me.
First time to Katsuya and was blown away by the quality. The menu featured how the Chef was trained in Tokyo and the philosophy behind Katsuya - quality, clean, freshly made food. The pork Katsu was delicious, as was my wagyu Katsu - so tender and juicy. Will definitely come back again!
$18 for 4 slices of raw amberjack- which is ok if it was great. However it was drenched heavily in an extremely sour and spicy sauce - that didnât do any justice to the raw cuts of fish.
Prawn meepok was great but at$18 I expect a damn bloody good plate.
We left after that hungry and went in search for proper hawker food.
TLDR/ Come if you like overpriced tiny portions of âelevatedâ local food.

I honestly havenât had such a great plate of horfun in a Long time.
Everything and really , every thing was done so well .
I would choose this over kok Sen anything .
My new found favourite place for sliced fish dishes / soup noodles / horfun / ee- Mian .
Their black bean / See chup version of the sliced fish horfun is good as well .
This stall has a particularly Long history at Tiong Bahru market and they have been serving up fabulous horfun / tze char dishes over the years.

For the die hard fans of the old Tiong Bahru market ... ...
This is the best hidden secret of Tiong Bahru market. For those of you who know The old Tiong Bahru market well, chow kee used to be very popular .
Particularly known for their horfun and rice dishes in Cantonese style, this stall still has its regular followers.
The black bean ( See chup) fish horfun was full of wok hei and I must say that the cuts of fish slices were very very very fresh and thick - really one of the best I have had . The hor fun was of a high quality texture and was slightly QQ. The whole dish came together very nicely đ
One of the best black bean fish hor funs I have eaten in a Long time - definitely better than kok senâs version in my opinion ( and no need to endure the crazy queues ) .
The best part is that they are open for dinner -
Together with quite a few other many stalls ( ie the famous Hokkien fried prawn mee , Lee Kwang ji roasted meat and char Siews and Chenâs carrot cake ).
Do come by Tiong Bahru market for dinner sometime - you may be surprised to find quite a good variety of food đ
At 5 dollars , this was hands down value for money .
