Hokkien mee is a Malaysian Chinese dish originating in Kuala Lumpur created by Fujian immigrants consisting of thick egg noodles, cooked in dark soy sauce, served with cabbage, pork belly strips, squid and pork lard.

The Hokkien mee at Oriental Pavilion is coated well with a thick sweet and savoury sauce, complete with pieces of high grade pork belly. The generous heap of pork lard (euphemistically called pork croutons) adds a crunchiness with the right balance of umami from the char caused by the "wok hei", a fierce wok fire. There are many restaurants in Kuala Lumpur that serve great versions of this dish, but few can compare to this. A little pricey, but you get what you pay for. Simply outstanding.

Nasi Lemak is a Malaysian dish consisting on coconut rice, sambal, egg, peanuts and cucumber. This Malaysian dish has quite a number of local varieties depending, where it can be made Malay, Chinese or Indian style, depending on the cook. Basic ingredients make this dish in its simplest form suitable for vegetarians.

What makes this Vegetarian Nasi Lemak quite special is it's catering to a vegetarian diet. Usually, sambas would be made from chilli, onion and belachan, a fermented fish paste, along with anchovies. However, Ganga Cafe has gone a step further by making the sambal from a mushroom base, giving you that consistency you would expect from the anchovy. As mushrooms leave a strong umami flavour, this replacement is what makes this dish. The rice is also served with a choice of vegetarian mutton (made from mushrooms), vegetarian fish (made from egg) or vegetarian chicken (made from soy). You can see why this restaurant was awarded by @TimeoutKL as the vegetarian restaurant of 2017.

Vegetarian cuisine is integral to Indian cuisine, and mutton is a commonly used protein in Indian cooking. Vegetarian mutton is usually mock meat made from gluten derived soy.

The vegetarian mutton here, unlike many other places, is made from mushrooms, specifically the monkey head mushroom. The vegetarian mutton here doesn't give off that distinct taste which is found in gluten based mock meats, but has the fragrance and aroma of proper mutton due to the spices used in its cooking. The texture is springy to the bite, making you almost forget that you're not eating meat at all. Quite an example of fine vegetarian cuisine.

These Taiwanese nougat rice crackers (牛軋米餅) are made from all natural ingredients with no preservatives, consisting of two pieces of rice crackers flavoured with green onion and sesame seeds, sandwiching a layer of nougat.

The rice cracker had more of the consistency of a buttery and flaky crispy cookie, with a nice aroma of green onion. The nougat was just the right size which was perfect with each bite. To really enjoy these delectable rice crackers, pop it into the microwave oven for 10 seconds and wait for the nougat to warm and melt, resulting in a s'more-like consistency and texture. Definitely a must buy when you visit Taiwan.

Hue style spicy beef noodles, also known as Bún Bò Huế, is a traditional soup noodle dish from the old capital of Hue in Vietnam. The dish consist of beef slices, the kind you find in pho, but with the addition of Vietnamese ham known as chả lụa and cooked in a spicy broth.

The noodles used were laksa noodles, with gave it a nice texture. The Australian beef brisket were fresh, with the spicy broth giving it a nice kick. What was really the stand out would be the chả lụa, a Vietnamese ham which when drowned in the spicy broth permeates with sweet and savoury.

Red duck curry (แกงเผ็ดเป็ดแดง, kaeng ped pet yang) is a central Thai dish that is commonly found in Bangkok cuisine. The dish consists of roasted duck and fresh lychee in a red curry. This dish is typical of central Thai cuisine with its strong Chinese influences as seen with the use of roasted duck and lychee.

The duck here used is a smoked duck, which imparts a strong, salty and smoky flavour to the curry, different from the traditional roasted duck. The fresh lychees and pineapples also add much sweetness to the red curry, with the Vietnamese mint giving it a fragrant bitter twist. When served with rice, it's all just nice.

The first dish, an amuse bouche course, was the Red Moruno Prawn Tartare consisting of red moruno prawns, served with a calamansi-mint sorbet, avocado, wild salmon roe and micro greens.The calamansi sorbet added a nice acidity to the dish, with the mint brightening it up. The dollops of salmon roe also added a nice briny umami burst, with the creamy avocado cutting the sharpness. The prawns were an interesting choice, but as with raw prawns, it can leave a slightly gelatinous texture, which perhaps would work better with a mix of prawn and scallop.

The thirteenth dish, the sixth course, the wagyu was served with green gazpacho cream, cauliflower purée and handmade strigoli pasta. The A5 wagyu was cooked perfectly on a Robata grill, ensuring that the flesh is served medium-rare, still succulent on the inside, with the extra crispy char on the outside. Because of the high grade of protein used, the marbling on the meat ensures that each bite melts in your mouth after the crispy first contact. Every bit is really worth the extra RM198, better than most steakhouses that specialise. This dish is really taken to a whole new level.

The seventh dish, first part of second course, was the snow crab was served au gratin, briny sweet and springy. The flakes of crab flesh were layered on top of the champagne sabayon, with the chayote adding a nice firm texture to the dish. The caviar added a rich umami flavour to the delicate crab flesh.

Strudels are a traditional Austrian pastry made from flaky pastry, which can be served sweet when filled with fruit and sweetened cream, or savoury.

The peach strudel at Kenny Hills Bakers were quite sizeable, with peaches and a sweetened Chantilly cream as its base. The cream wasn't overtly sweet, with extra crispy and flaky pastry giving it a nice firm texture. This dessert alone is worth the visit.

Garlic naan is an Iranian and Indian flatbread made from flour and cooked in a tandoor. Naan usually comes plain, but can be layered with cheese and garlic.

The garlic naan here's quite exquisite,
Flat it's crust and quite composite,
Unlike some places seen before,
Nice crispy layers to adore.
To complement this simple dish,
Butter paneer's my only wish,
A vegetarian's heart's desire,
A dish for all to fuel the fire.
You'll eat and eat and eat again,
From time to time with no refrain,
The chai masala here is good,
