Essentially tantalisingly bitter espresso ice slabs with surprising sharply salted cores having a bit of a lie down on a cream-topped, crumble-crusted wet coffee sponge bed. 3.9/5

Reminiscent of all those memories during my university days where this place would be a popular choice after classes. No matter the humidity or crowd, we all wait in line patiently for this glorious plate of roast meats. Oh and that splash of dark sauce, mess or art? You decide.

I had flown in to Park Bench Deli for an errand but flew out grinning from ear to ear because I had their Crunchy Fried Chicken Sandwich in my clutch! πŸ˜„ The moment I got back into my waiting cab, off went the wrapping and in chomped my teeth.
The combo is pretty much a classic but you can trust PBD to do everything with panache. This means they use only thigh meat, sou vide-ing it first for tenderness before frying it to a loud crunchy finish (which somehow manages to not be oily). Swaddled with the chicken in the onion bread is a killer duo of cheekily spicy housemade slaw (it contains Peruvian green chilli sauce), cucumber and good ol' Japanese kewpie mayo.

I am not usually fond of the Indian-Muslim style of mee siam with thicker gravy but to my surprise, I rather enjoyed the one from "Warong Anika Rasa Muslim Food". This is a stall inside the food court on the second level of the IRAS building.
I think it's due to their tasty gravy striking an ideal balance with the fresh lime and sweetish sambal. Plus their beehoon had been pre-fried so it was already quite shiok. I really like that they threw on plenty of chives too.

One off the wish list!

Tendon Kohaku boasts queues with long waiting times. However, I managed to sneak in at the last hour at the Circular Road outlet without queueing.

I can totally understand the hype. For S$19.50++, the Kohaku Tendon Set is totally worth it. There's a generous portion of tempura - big prawns, squid, chicken filet, baby corn, long beans, mushrooms and pumpkin - all on top of premium steamed rice from Hokkaido. It also comes with udon soup which makes a great complement to the intense flavours of the tendon.

Visited the brand new Shinji by Kanesaka at Carlton Hotel for lunch today. Located in one corner of the lobby, I found the zen-looking walkway at the restaurant entrance to help put me in the right frame of mind for the impending meal as I wound my way through it. The interior of this Shinji reminds me a lot of the original at Raffles Hotel albeit on a larger scale. Unlike the St. Regis outlet, this has a lower ceiling so the feeling is cosier.
As I was in greedy mode (when am I ever not 😜), I chose to have the 15-piece sushi course again.
Every single piece was sublime but this silky Spanish mackerel was the one I loved most. The way it felt in my mouth floored me to say the least.

The Betterfield opens TODAY at its new location at The Treasury (100 High Street). Bright and very spacious, it can seat 142 diners, which makes this place worth considering if you are celebrating birthdays or organising gatherings.

Naturally, there are new items added to the menu too, such as the pictured Cheese Curry Fries which we got to try at last night's invited tasting. Its seasoning reminds me of Japanese curry which has a pleasant sweetness mixed with the spicy. Chef Shaun revealed the secret ingredient in his recipe at the end of our meal - it's icing sugar! He told us that even he was surprised by this very shiok outcome when he was experimenting. Some of us felt that the yummy fries didn't need anything else but I thought the accompanying Japanese curry mayo was perfect for it - rounding off the crispy-crunchy, strongly seasoned fries with a lovely voluptuous creaminess.

Warning: This is the kind of dish that if you happen to be distracted for a moment, the plate will be empty when you look back at it. 😳😳😳

One example would be the Steak & Ale Pie ($19) which brought back many fond memories during my holiday in the UK. A thick doughy pastry, made in-house, is used to house the filling of beef steak and vegetables which has been cooked for many hours in a thick gravy stock flavoured with ale, Worcester sauce, thyme and black pepper. Served with a side salad and chunky fries, this is screaming out loud for a pint to enjoy with.

Decadent chocolate cake dusted with Himalayan salt with coconut ice cream and salted caramel sauce. This is to die for..

Miso marinated cod with Malay herb rice and cucumber. Love the rice and cucumber. The cod could be cooked a little less
