𝗛𝗮𝗶 𝗟𝗮𝗻 𝗕𝗮𝗻 𝗠𝗶𝗮𝗻 - 海兰板面.鱼汤‘s tom yam ban mian ($4.50) was decent but not mind blowing. i’m somewhat convinced that i must have not tried their signatures so i will be back to try something else.

spicy lovers, rejoice. @alimama_maxwell’s green chilli chicken rice ($6.50) packed a punch with its built up spiciness of its green chilli blend, red chilli dip and stewed-to-perfection curry vegetables. aside from the very slightly dry inner, there’s nothing else i can pick about this dish. def coming back!

i think i’ve found my favourite place to have red oil dumplings (10pcs for $6.50). tender marinated meat in silky wrappers & coated with aromatic blend of garlic, chilli oil and vinegar, it was tasty with a good spicy kick.

an unexpected find we’ll return to. what started as a random craving for carrot cake got us impressed by how flavourful the carrot cake ($4) was. i found myself reaching out more for the black version that had a good balance of sweetness, fragrant of eggs and a tad of char. with a generous serving of eggs, the white carrot cake was soft yet hearty.

if bcm & claypot rice had a baby, it’ll be the signature bcm 自创砂锅面 ($4.50) by @ahgongbcm. warm, filled with umami and novel - definitely worth a try. the owner also shared that their broth is made fresh with no msg added. with the intentions of making their dish available for all, you’ll also be able find a $2.50 version available in the menu.

a taste of home - @tongxinju’s steamed dumplings 状元水饺 ($4.80) were unpretentious, comforting & delicious. handmade daily & filled with fresh meat and chives in dumpling skin with just-right thickness, it was easy on the palate & binge-worthy. best eaten hot.

one of the crispiest waffles i’ve ever had. fragrant, light with a slight chew, we immediately wished we had the double. for the gelato, we ordered 𝒑𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒐 & 𝒃𝒂𝒄𝒊𝒐. a mistake on our ends, these were both extremely rich flavours that might have been better eaten on their own than together.

𝒑𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒐 - a medley of nuttiness and saltiness, 👦🏻 preferred this while i preferred the latter.
𝒃𝒂𝒄𝒊𝒐 - reminds me of ferrero in gelato form but creamier and denser. my favourite part of it was that the gelato was chewy and so good with the waffles or on its own. wished i could have more!

an easy drink! but i would prefer a stronger hojicha taste.

smoky, flavourful with a hint of spice, 👦🏻 & i enjoyed this so much, he even told me he’ll order this next time if he sees it!

you’ll get the best of both worlds, egg lovers. a serving of the sweet tamago paired with custardy onsen egg. the baked chicken was well-seasoned & tender with torched mentaiko. i love mixing everything in and having all of the flavours in a single mouth!

straying from my usual order of good ol’ matcha latte after getting tempted by numerous good reviews, i caved in & tried their 𝑴𝒂𝒕𝒄𝒉𝒂 𝑯𝒐𝒋𝒊𝒄𝒉𝒂 𝑳𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒆 ($5.90). it was oh, so fragrant, rich & had me wanting for more. having a matcha-lover along also meant we could try more, so we had both oatmilk and fresh milk option in a single seating.

i’ve mostly preferred matcha & oatmilk combination over the past year. interestingly though, i preferred the fresh milk version this time round. in a single sip, you’ll taste the earthiness of the matcha along with the smokiness of hojicha - that i just say, blended so well with the creaminess of the fresh milk. the oatmilk tasted much lighter to me, so it really depends on your preference!
