Today's med leave was quite a waste since I only managed to rest like an hour more. Most of the morning was spent at clinics: at a regular one for the obligatory MC, and my TCM for acupuncture relief for my super blocked sinuses. But hey, TGIF!! Plus my mutton soup was even more awesome than usual, and the shop gave us an extra portion of potatoes because I asked why those were missing from the ε€§η›˜ιΈ‘γ€‚=D

Wouldn't have made it here if @ironsage hadn't been raving about their homemade giant fishballs! Think my ideal fishball noodles will have the dry noodles and fish cake from A Noodle Story, fishballs from Kin Kin, and meatballs and hee kiaw from Song Kee. 😍

Eons ago, I had a very meh meal here, whose only saving grace was the crispy carrot cake. I'd written it off but the dish popped up on my ig feed recently. The restaurant seemed to have gained quite a lot of good comments recently, so I finally came back. It's super packed, the carrot cake is still as en pointe as I remember, and my beloved claypot fish turned out pretty comforting too. Guess you gotta know which dishes to order, and damn well stick to it. For instance, the beef pho has good soup but meat's tough. Got my heart set on grilled prawns, fried quail, and cockles for subsequent visits. It's pretty near my place, so I might come by more often when I've got people to share the cooked dishes (as opposed to noodles) with.

The "Ma Bo Lor Mee" stall has a few laminated news articles stuck to the front of it but after trying the classic $2.50 version, I didn't think it was all that rave-worthy. Don't get me wrong, the taste is decent and it's very affordable so I can understand the attraction, Plus customers get to freely plonk on all the raw garlic, chili sambal and black vinegar they want.
What I feel makes this place stand out though is they also offer "lor mee" with the kind of toppings that you know is soooooo bad for you, yet resistance is futile. We're talking deep-fried fish and chicken chop that's super crunchy yet pretty grease-free, the batter shattering once your teeth meets it. Between the two, we preferred the fish because of its thinner coating of batter. Which meant my decision to get an extra $2 serving of it was a good one. For 8 pieces, that's really worth it.
"Ma Bo Lor Mee" can be found at #01-76 inside the Blk 216 Bedok North Hawker Centre.

Located inside Fu Sen Eating House is Siang Yuen Traditional Roasts, a stall that sells Roasted Delights at the coffeeshop at the junction of Jago Close and East Coast Road. Of the Roast Pork, Roast Chicken and Roast Duck, my favourite was the Roast Chicken for how succulent, juicy and tender the meat was unlike the dry and rough ones you get from other stalls usually, yet with crisp skin. Roast Pork was also very decent with very crisp skin and smoky flavoured meat, though it skews towards the leaner scale. Roast Duck was glistening on the skin, and the meat came off the bones easily tender and skin was crisp. Their last day of operations at this coffee shop would be the 29th July 2015, after which they would be moving to Chai Chee Techopark 750E food court on the 30th July 2015. #hawkerpedia

Love this Satay burger at The Quarters. Marinated chicken thigh between crisp rice patties with a delicious Satay sauce! Good stuff.

After you select the pieces of "yong tau foo", the hawker gives them a quick deep-fry for a yummy crunchy coating. The "chee cheong fun" that's kept piping hot in a large steamer is then taken out, cut into bite-sized portions and transferred to a plate. I was seriously enamoured with its silky smoothness. It's good enough to rival my favourite at Hong Lim Hawker Centre.
The stall has set meals too for ease of ordering. I noticed quite a few customers loading up on their yam cake and "zhang" (glutinous rice dumplings). I am definitely considering to give those a try the next time.
"Yummy" is located at unit #01-77 of Blk 216 Bedok North Hawker Centre. It's quite easy to spot as the stall has a modern-looking wooden signboard

First time at Coco Ichibanya and I'm pretty impressed by the service. And how thoughtful is this takeaway box design! Managed to get back to the office with crispy cutlet. Yay!

$13.90++ for an 8-piece tempura don, with chawanmushi on the side is ridiculously cheap. And you'll definitely be full, because they're generous with the tempura: 2 chicken fillets, 2 shrimp, 1 shiitake, 1 lady's finger, 1 sweet potato, 1 corn. Oh and a deep-fried tamago! I could do without the slow-moving queues, but I've no complaints about the food. But why oh why, does a mug of NON-REFILLABLE green tea cost $3.80++? When there's also iced water on the house? To upsell to the $9++ beer? Okay, I'd have taken the bait if I'd known earlier that the tea's not refillable. X=
PS. Oh why is the location name backwards?
