(AMIGO SARAWAK KOLO MEE)

I love Kolo Mee, but the ones I've had in other places have mostly failed to impress. So, I was definitely pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this- the noodles were pleasantly springy and nicely flavoured with all the pork oil and juices! It really reminded me of my favorite wanton noodles in Indonesia (known as pangsit mie there), except this was somewhat a less oily version. The portion here runs a little small for me, so if I'd definitely recommend the Large portion. It's a difference of 60 cents for the upsize, but the amount of noodles was massive, which will surely please those with bigger appetites 😝

Unfortunately, the curry fell short in terms of flavours- it was lacking spice and the rich notes of coconut milk. The texture of the noodles were understandbly softer here, but it has soaked up the curry broth quite well! This bowl came with a generous amount of ingredients- a whole chicken wing, taupok and potatoes so all in all, it was still pretty comforting to have when consumed piping hot on a chilly rainy afternoon.

I really wanted to like this place, but unfortunately it fell short of expectations.
The broth, although rich in taste, was quite one dimensional. The fried garlic flavour was also far too intense for my liking. Thankfully, the noodles were well cooked and had a delightfully chewy texture! Here, the boat noodles come without any spice level, so you'll be able to add the chilli from the condiments tray to your liking. The condiments like fish sauce and chilli vinegar did help to elevate the flavours of the broth too!

p.s. Their Thai milk tea ($2.50) is premade so you wouldn't be able to customise your sweetness level as well, but they were happy to add more ice when asked!

This time round, I decided to try out their char siew and I'm glad they do quite a good rendition of it! Even the lean parts of the meat was tender and sufficiently juicy. They gave quite a generous serving of sauce too, which coated my noodles well and made them absolutely slurp worthy! Their sambal sauce doesn't seem to be spicy at all, and only served to make the dish even more sweet, so for those who are looking for more of a kick can help themselves to the free flow green chilli at the side instead.
Unfortunately, my mother's order of soya sauce chicken didn't fare as well as my choice of meat; some parts were terribly undercooked that it was still very red. The parts that were cooked though, was still as tender as we remembered. I really hope this is a one time thing, because the chicken that we had at their Chinatown outlet was beautifully cooked.
*serving time (compared to the Smith street's stall)seems to be shorter and there is a condiments counter here so huge pluses for that! 😊

So Hot & Cold might have gotten all the love (even the friendly staff raved about that one instead), but this was easily my favourite drink of the night.
This was refreshing and the tangy and creamy yoghurt complemented the liquor well. What I couldn't get however, was the frozen yoghurt beads in the white chocolate bowl- they were tasteless except for the familar sourness of yoghurt, but completely unsweetened, so it wasn't my favourite to eat. But overall, this was a really enjoyable drink that you'll want to take time to savour down to the last drop.

Having read so much about it, and it being written as one of OD's classics on the menu, this was of course, a must-order.
Have it immediately and you'll soon see how apt its name is. A warm luscious thick foam seperates your lips from the cold liquid, and it all goes so well together. I can see how this is a crowd favourite, though I daresay it felt more like a liquid dessert more than a cocktail.

The drink arrived with a piece of cucumber beautifully embedded with toasted sesame seeds. This might have reminded some of the local hawker favourite chicken rice, but to me, it brings me back to my local street food favourite, rujak cingur, in Indonesia. The cucumber really sets the tone for this drink, because it'll evoke different memories for everyone, and that's the fun part. 😉

Ru Ji Fishball Noodles

I originally planned to get something else but when I saw newspaper clippings on the front of this stall, I made an impromptu stop here instead.
The real star has to be the (what I heard were) handmade fishballs here, they were bouncy and tasted light and fresh along with the clear soup.

So many other stalls that look good here- a 2nd visit has to be in order!

If you are someone who is picky about what's in your bibimbap, you'd be happy to know that you have full discretion in choosing the ingredients here. Choose between purple rice/quinoa, 1 meat, 3 complementary sides and the original gochujang or a non-spicy sauce.
I love purple rice for its nuttier taste, and they cooked it really well so I was able to enjoy its slight chewy texture as well. Although the default only allows you to choose 3 sides, they gave quite a generous amount of each. However, I am one who enjoys a good ol' traditional bibimbap and found myself missing the crunch from a wider variety of fresh vegetables and a more intense sesame taste. This felt more like eating a salad version of the bibimbap instead of the original dish.
Definitely not a bad dish, but just not something I might count on to fix an authentic Korean cuisine craving.

This is my newfound favourite of all the flavours I've tried from their list of martinis (I think I must have tried at least 5).
The bartender recommended this over my initial choice of the Bangkok Martini because he said the latter was an acquired choice. I was all ready to be a daredevil and get the Bangkok one because well, YOLO, but I'm really glad I listened to him instead because this was such a delight. The lemon made the drink incredibly refreshing and easy to drink, despite it being slightly strong.

Comes with 2 full lychees! I was hesitant in ordering this at first, because I don't fancy my drinks sweet but thankfully it wasn't overly so!

Standard drink, but I really love the design of this place! Like the name suggests, the interior depicted a scene from an alley; look up and there are even shophouse windows to capture the feel! A pity that it was too dark for me to capture the beautiful interior, but this is a very lovely place to kick back and unwind if not for the ambience alone.
