Koko Loco For Korean

Koko Loco For Korean

I don't watch Korean dramas, but I don't need 'em for Korean food cravings anyways!

This arrived PIPING HOT and kept wonderfully warm in the claypot bowl, so take your time to enjoy this one! As much as I would have loved to have heed my own advice, the soup was too comforting and I wolfed it down with the accompanying rice. There was soft tofu, a few pieces of seafood, and finally an egg to complete this dish perfectly. Compared to the usual kimchi soup, this was lighter in taste, but I found it more soothing.

This restaurant can get packed during mealtimes, so I'd definitely recommend calling to reserve. Complimentary side dishes were good in variety and taste, and I especially loved the macaroni and the fishcakes. They're refillable too (I appreciated their offer despite them being incredibly busy), but please ask for refills wisely to prevent food wastage! šŸ˜Š

Incredibly flavourful although it can get a tad too intense in the salt and sweet flavours. Best paired with a steaming bowl of rice!

If you are someone who is picky about what's in your bibimbap, you'd be happy to know that you have full discretion in choosing the ingredients here. Choose between purple rice/quinoa, 1 meat, 3 complementary sides and the original gochujang or a non-spicy sauce.
I love purple rice for its nuttier taste, and they cooked it really well so I was able to enjoy its slight chewy texture as well. Although the default only allows you to choose 3 sides, they gave quite a generous amount of each. However, I am one who enjoys a good ol' traditional bibimbap and found myself missing the crunch from a wider variety of fresh vegetables and a more intense sesame taste. This felt more like eating a salad version of the bibimbap instead of the original dish.
Definitely not a bad dish, but just not something I might count on to fix an authentic Korean cuisine craving.

Thanks to Burppler John Kuan's handy tip, I chose to swap the rice from the beef stew with a top-up of $7!
It was really fun to make the rice balls, and while the flavours weren't mindblowing, it certainly made for a much more interesting accompaniment to the beef stew.

This stew comes with a choice of glass noodles or udon (I chose the latter) and a spiciness level. Level 3 was perfect for a chilli lover like me; it was a nice kick that didn't overwhelm. Any higher a spice level I think would have distracted me from truly enjoying the beautiful rich beef stew, which was wonderfully thick ('gao') and powerful. The dish comes with a burner too so it will remain nice and hot throughout the meal!

The manager was sharing with me how the head chefs were Korean and that the ingredients were imported from Korea for the food to maintain its authenticity. I haven't tried a real beef stew in Korea, but I cannot imagine anything more comforting than having this on a chilly night there.

This was akin to the Japanese Tamagoyaki, but full of melty cheese inside and drizzled with a sweet mustard sauce. A great side to share that will be sure to delight all cheese lovers!
The egg was wonderfully light and fluffy and the cheese really went well with it. It was still melty and stringy for a good amount of time before it soldified. The sauce was a tad too sweet, but that is nitpicking to an otherwise great dish!

I've had my fair share of fried chicken from various Korean restaurants, but this easily tops my list. It arrived reallyyyy hot and remained crispy throughout.
I think what easily differentiated this from other Korean Fried Chicken I've had was how light and crunchy the batter was, which made it all the more addictive. What would have sealed the deal was if it came with more sauce, and it would have been perfect!

I was deciding between the 'Spicy' (the waitress warned us that many people found it too hot already) or 'Very Spicy' and eventually decided to go for the latter because YOLO right? (but mainly because she reassured me it was below fire noodles.)
Thankfully, the spice level was still manageable for me. The sauce was a tad too sweet but packed wonderful heat, and the slurp-worthy ramyun noodles did a great job of soacking it up. The ricecakes were slightly overcooked and I missed its the chewiness when done right. Still, they were pretty generous with the ingredients, which made it perfect for sharing!

I followed my heart & it led me to the fridge.
