Formerly known as Benjamin Browns, newly-revamped bistro concept The Benjamins makes a splashy (re)entrance with the launch of their Over The Top Shakes ($16) — absolutely massive milkshakes topped with everything from the kitchen sink to your mother. Current flavours include Caramel Crunch, Nutella Banana and Tim Tams, but we say go for the creamy and fragrant Coffee Avocado, which is probably the most restrained of the bunch!

This will also be available on their new set menu.

The ones from #karafuru are Japanese inspired- ume shiso ( their signature made from plum liquer), passionfruit (my fav of the lot!!) , jasmine matcha, Marc de champagne, Black Forest, Sakura rose. They all range from $6-7.

Step into two-week-old Manzoku and one will recognize it from sister establishment Chikuwa Tei. It's almost like déjà vu—even the layout's the same. Quality fares just as well—no surprise there.

The menu is extensive, but it's hard to say no to chirashi. Especially when it looks like this. Thick, fresh, luscious slabs of hamachi toro, tai, otoro, mekajiki, kanpachi, hotate, salmon roe and uni sashimi are carefully laid over a bed of sushi rice, each tasty grain cooked to retain just enough bite to prevent it from being mushy.

It's delicious, really, but at $68 (for a set), we reckon we'd probably be opting for the chirashi don ($25) on its own if we make it back.

Thick slices of fresh melt-in-your-mouth sashimi. The must-have of every chirashi don. My personal favourites was the refreshingly sweet tamago, made tastier by the fact that it is slightly chilled. And of course, the swordfish and salmon.

Besides the freshness of the sashimi, the good quality of the Japanese rice with just the right amount of vinegar, is what makes this bowl stand out.

Dish: normal chirasi don ($24.90)

The eggs were poached perfectly. They had a slightly soft-boiled consistency, so it was slightly runny which I love. The hash was crispy and well-flavoured. It was served with a side of pulled pork, which was rather tender and flavourful. However not a lot was given, and it would have been better if there was more to go around. Good for brunch, although it may not necessarily fill you up. Nevertheless, the food tasted good, and the presentation was incredible. The staff was friendly as well which is always a good thing.

Ginza Kuroson launches its second outlet in Takashimaya, and lovers of Japanese food need to check it out immediately! Apart from the impressive space – there is a seafood display, robatayaki counter and even a teppanyaki room – Ginza Kuroson offers a wide (and often uncommon) range of fresh, high-quality Japanese fare in a classy setting at a very accessible price point. Their lunch sets are highly value-for-money, and you should go for the Ryoshi Gokai Nagekomi Don ($22) or the Tempura Don ($26). If you like sushi, don't miss the exquisite-looking Temari Sushi Set ($28). If you happen to be here at a quieter hour, try your luck and ask for one of their private rooms (no additional charge) and instantly feel like an atas tai-tai.

Looks pretty intimidating, but the cake was surprisingly light and incredibly moist – I thought of sharing, but ended up wolfing the entire slice down by myself 🙊. The cream cheese frosting was suitably lush and velvety, not greasy, but it was far too sweet. What's really lovely, though, was the extra drizzle of salted caramel trickling down the cake – it had the fullness of a butterscotch sauce. Mad love!

Official opening was last night - and I must say their shop's interior is really pretty.

On a side note, someone give @i___am___k the most humorous award for 2015 HAHA.

Special thanks to @lkkben for the invite and @ivanseow for hosting us☺️

Quite surprised with this hearty bowl of tomato soup. Could still taste some of the pulp so it means it's likely done from scratch. With servings of 4 slices of whole grain toasted bread and friendly service this is definitely a better option for soup that the more known outlets out there.

While the stunning roominess that is Brawn & Brains' new cafe space is guaranteed to be appreciated, it's good to know what made us fall in love with them in the first place has not changed - their excellent coffee.
I tried their house blend today, the "Pen & Pencil" and its combination of Ethiopian, Columbian and Brazilian beans was sheer poetry on the palette.
