Really liked the Black Mamba from @rawkitchenbar! The squid ink fried rice actually had pretty good wokhey (whether intended or not) and the prawns was plump and fresh. The fermented sambal really was the star that brought everything together, and really packed a punch.
Had tasty truffle oil noodles from @iwantmynoodle. It’s tucked in a corner of Shaw so it’s quite a nice place to settle down for lunch away from the busier parts of town. Prices are affordable as well!
Really liked the Umami Mentaiko Smoked Salmon toast from @evanskitch! The various ingredients such as mentaiko, smoked salmon, chicken floss came together really well and made for a wonderfully cohesive dish, where each bite was creamy, umami, with some tanginess from the picked Japanese cucumber. Thank you @burpple for the invite and @evanskitch for the hospitality.
A highlight from the @burpple eat-up at @evanskitch! The spaghetti with pork stew stock and pork belly made for a surprisingly tasty combination. The stock was super flavourful and and the pork belly was fork-tender. Yummy and made all the more worth it with #burpplebeyond ‘s one for one deals.
Picturesque carrot cake from @coexistcoffee.co that tasted as good as it looks! The carrot cake sticks were really crisp and tender/soft inside, and paired very well with the sambal mayo that wasn’t too overpowering. Yummy side dish to share! Honourable mentions include their brussel sprouts and grilled cheese with tomato soup.
Had to try the “chicken” and waffle from @lovehandlesg as it’s a as commonly seen meat alternative (compared to the usual impossible meat). Really had similarities to chicken in both texture and taste! Thought it was close to McDonald’s McChicken patty but definitely not as greasy / meaty, which is something I appreciate. They also have a butcher so you can check it out if you want to bring any of their meat alternative products back.
Paid a visit to @fatcatsg ‘s newest location at Kovan! First visited their original outlet at Bedok (which was quite sometime before cafes/ice cream shops were as common as they are today) and happy that an outlet has conveniently opened up in the area! Tried their butterbeer and seasonal special flavour pineapple toffee tart. The butterbeer tasted a little too burnt (from the brown butter perhaps?) for my liking but their pineapple toffee tart was a winner! The pineapple flavours helped mellow out the toffee sweetness but the flavours still blended really well. They don’t have a dine-in area but they do have (limited) seats for small groups to sit and chat while eating ice cream/drinking coffee.
Super good baklava from @ayasofya_restaurant_sg ! It’s been a while since the trip to Turkey and this really was reminiscent of the baklava we had there. The pastry was really buttery and flakey, and was still super crisp although it was well flavoured by the sweet syrup.
The tuscan seafood stew @lolascafesg was chock full of ingredients and very rich and creamy. The crispy onions added a great texture and flavour to the broth, which was amazing to swipe up with the crisp sourdough.
The grilled octopus from @canchita_sg was a highlight of the meal. The octopus was tender and grilled to perfection, and went perfectly well with the tangy sauce and crispy garlic.
Finally managed to try the famed wagyu beef cubes from @tipsyflamingosg. At $18 per plate, this was pretty worth it in my opinion. The beef was really tender, and the slight truffle aroma really enhanced the flavour. Paired with just some salt and their frosty lager, this makes for a great sharing dish/appetiser.
Yummy anko toast from @kurasusg made for a nice tea time snack. The anko when mixed with the butter tasted a bit like kaya toast (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing). Great place for good coffee and to hang out with friends.
